I suspect that the sole reason to play strip poker, at least in mixed company, is to tease and tempt. As such, I can't think of good reason to do it.

However, if you are planning to preach to your friend on this topic as a means of conversion, don't. This kind of thing doesn't work.

If, OTOH, you are considering playing as means of being his friend towards winning him eventually to the Lord, consider very, very, very carefully.

You haven't revealed your gender, so I don't know if you are male or female. Nor have you indicated whether your friend is male or female. If you are opposite sexes, then you will most likely find that the sexual tension between you is a considerable obstacle to conversion -- or conversation, for that matter.

I would recommend against it.

It is arguable that nudity is good. I might concede the point. But as I noted above, strip poker isn't about nudity, per se, it's about titillation.

What an interesting question - "is strip poker bad?"
I don't see how it can be good for you, it doesn't exactly lead to "pure" thoughts (but if you don't care about having pure thoughts or not, that doesn't matter)
But i don't think you can really argue that it's bad for you... it could be a fun way to undress eachother...
My boyfriend's suggested teaching me how to play it, and I think I'd try it sometime...

Hello everyone,

I'm very surprised about the responses to this questions "Is strip poker bad?" First of all, the fellow asked for the Bible's view, not yours. Quite frankly, yes. Here are my reasons:

1) Playing strip poker will put temptation on all the people who play, especially those of the opposite sex.

Matthew 5:27-30
27 "You have heard that it was said, 'YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY';
28 but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
29 "If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
30 "If your right hand makes you stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to go into hell.

You can memorize all the verses you want to fight temptation, or you can simply avoid it.

2) I think that, putting yourself in a situation where you will be tempted is like trying to put your foot on the line without actually stepping over it, and of course the natural human tendency might be something like "accidentally" falling over to the other side, jumping over as far as you can while you fall, and hurriedly jumping back over in repentance. Your not invincible.

James 1:13-16
13 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.
14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.
15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.
16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.

3) Even if you don't think you are sinning, the other people, especially non-christians may think that you are, and they might judge you for it.

4) Ask yourself some questions. Would Jesus do this? What am I trying to accomplish? What method of accomplishing this will be successful and maintain for me a Godly life style?

I could probably find other verses and reasons, but this should be enough. Thanks everyone for your all your posts and I love you all! And please examine the Bible for yourself to make sure what people tell you is actually so or not. Look at the commandment in James!! Do not be decieved, my beloved brethren. James 1:16

I don't think that "strip poker" is mentioned in the Bible, however I would think that Christ would frown upon it.

Nudity isn't the issue. The purpose of strip poker is to "win" the other people's clothing. You are attempting to undress them and therefore you are lusting after their clothing, at least, and most likely a glance at what is under the remaining clothing.

I would suggest that you talk to your friend about the love of Christ and then once she/he has accepted, then let God work on her/his heart about the strip poker.

Havoc,

So, everything that goes against your conscience you refrain from, and everything that does not cause harm, you also refrain from? I have made an interesting observation, that, the more you do something that goes against your conscience, the less resistance your conscience will put up the next time you are about to do it. I have some questions for you, Havoc, In your opinion, is it wrong to lie? Have you ever lied, and if so, how many times? Is it wrong to steal? Have you ever stolen anything, and if so, how many times? And then, the same questions except about murder.

I have asked several secular people these questions, and they have responded that it is either not wrong to lie or it depends on the situation (most said that most of the time it's alright). Most responded that they had lied many times. One person mentioned he didn't lie very often, and that it is wrong. For theft, I got more depends, however they mentioned less of the time it is okay to steal than to lie. As for murder, nobody had murdered anyone and they all thought it was wrong. Interesting results no? Any way, my point is this, you can only trust your conscience for wrong actions with actions you haven't done.

This leads to another interesting point. Assuming we all start with a full conscience, and we know what is wrong before we have done anything, why do we commit an action we know to be wrong? I believe Christianity answers that, we are born into sin, we are sinners without having committed any sin at all. What do you all think?

Moving on then, 49erfan, your response was wise, however I would like to quote nindoja, "What is the Bible's perspective on strip poker..." Even though the Bible doesn't use the words strip poker, I'm sure there are several verses that would apply to the situation. Like this one:

Acts 15:29
You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things. Farewell.

(Bold was added).

Ephesians 5:3
But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people.

So then, let's see some more verses!

Thanks again everyone, have a nice day!
