  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

DS is sick. It started with a dry, hoarse cough this afternoon and a fever(101.7). He said his throat hurt and he is very hoarse so I thought it might be strep. I tried to look in his throat, but I couldn't get his tongue out of the way without him pulling away. Then tonight he threw up. Do they usually throw up with strep? We've never had it before so I was just wondering. Thanks.

Strep throat can only be diagnosed by a doctor. They have to run a special test. If it is in fact strep, the doctor will start your child on antibiotics. Try popcicles and alot of fluids to ease the pain.

The doctor may also recommend tylenol and if the child is old enough, gargling with salt water (obviously a baby isn't going to gargle). I think I remember the doctor saying if the glands are also swollen, you could put cold compresses on for the first 2 days, then switch to warm ones.

They can throw up with strep. But without the culture you don't know; it could also be a number of other things. You need to take your child to see the doctor. They have a quick strep culture now so you should get results pretty quickly about strep anyway.

Might be laryngitis too.

At this age these things can get bad, the worst being epiglottitis.

Kiddo definately needs to see a doc.

Listen for any whistling sounds when your kid breaths. If you hear whistling when your kid breaths through the mouth or there is any difficulty breathing, go straight to the ER.

God bless, hope he/she feels better.
