Hi all

I wasn't sure where to post this.......so apologies in advance if I've chosen the wrong forum.

Recently, for the past 6-8 weeks or so, I've been having unpleasant dreams. They're not nightmares, I'm not waking up frightened etc. but they are disturbing in a way. For example, I'll dream I lose all my friends, or that something happens to someone I love, or perhaps I dream about a fight or argument that has never/will never take place. Its distressing more than anything else.

I always wake up feeling really low (not talking Monday morning blues here!) and I hate starting every morning that way.

I don't know what I can do, if anything, to help myself out of them, but I was hoping someone here might have some pointers?

Thanks,

Astral

i would take a guess at saying that something is bothering you in general, not just when you sleep. I sometimes get dreams like you've described, they can be really unsettling and can certainly stay with you for some time after waking.

Think openly about what's going on in your life right now, are you having problems with confidence in the friendships you have?

my advice is simply to try and first off see if anything might be causing your sub concious mind to "think" these kinds of thoughts, and if you find something, find a way of dealing with it.

You may also find it helps to listen to some uplifting (but not energetic) music before going to bed or while you sleep - praise and worship music would be a good place to start - focus on the good things and on our Awesome God and you may find these disturbing dreams go away

I've had dreams like those too, great thing is i can always call unto God and so can you! Rebuke the spirit of fear (2 Tim 1:7: For God hath not given us the spirit of fear..." ) and pray for those people you dreamt or the situation...
i remember my sister had a very disturbing dream about something thats gotta do with friends or what, of course when she woke up her heart was beating so fast that she couldnt explain why then she was reminded bout her dream so she prayed to God to keep all her friends, family, relatives safe, and just everyone that she could remember...the next day one of her friends called up and told her that he almost got killed but then a miracle happened.

astral_acrobat, are you getting more than 8 hours of sleep a night? I would try to time your sleep schedule so you get only 8 hours. Any longer and you may do more dreaming just before you wake.

Sounds like general anxiety playing out in your dreams. Now you've got anxiety over your anxiety! Not a good situation.

Practice relaxing 4-5 times a day. Take 5min here or there, to just relax, empty your mind, pray--(but not intense prayer, just allow yourself to feel the love of Christ). Teach yourself how to relax, I betcha it will help.

Good luck.

When I have troubled sleep, I speak the name of Jesus to my room and claim the sleep that is sweet, that the Lord has promised His children. The perfect peace that belongs to me, I claim in the name and authority given me in Jesus name. If I have prayed and confessed my sins before slumber, there should be no reason for demons or evil spirits invading my space and giving me troubling visions. Say a little prayer in Jesus name, roll over and thank Jesus that He keeps you safe from all harm, and rest in Him. Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world (Jn. 4:4), so don't be afraid to claim your rest.

Pr 3:24 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

Jer 31:26 Upon this I awaked, and beheld; and my sleep was sweet unto me.

Isa 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Hi everyone, thanks for your replies. :)

Talie and Rage4Christ - You are right about the anxiety part. We've had a major illness in the family as well as a broken engagement (which is very messy) which is causing me some worry. These situations have been around since the beginning of the year though, so I was a bit puzzled that its only recently I've started having odd dreams. Thanks for the advice too. I do need to try and relax a bit more and I intend on trying listening to worship music before I sleep. Will let you know how I get on :)

Braeden and Raphe - I've taken your advice, and the last couple of nights have been better, so thank you :)

Bizzlebin - I hadn't considered that they were prophetic dreams, no. I've never had anything like that. The dreams tend to be jumbled and not really make sense.

Thanks again to everyone for their advice, its very much appreciated. :)
