Proverbs 9:17,
Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.
Oh how I know this verse well! I wish I didn't.
We need to look at the surrounding verses for the full context.
Verses 13 through 18 read,
"A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.
For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,
To call passengers who go right on their ways:
Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.
But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell."
Prior to this passage, all of chapter 7 speaks of an adulterous woman, and how she can entice a man, and the end is not good. Here in chapter 9 it says the dead are there and her guests in the depths of hell.
Fornicators and adulterers will go to hell. If they do not repent, they are mocking God, they are not abiding in Christ, they are not obeying His commandments, and therefore as the Scripture says, they don't know God, and God don't know them. That is, there is no saving relationship and their faith is a sham.
I speak from experience because I had those stolen waters; not once, but twice I was with married women: once for 3 1/2 years, and the second one I married, but after awhile it did not go well, and after 10 years together she hung herself. Oh, I thought, hey - David committed adultery, then married Bathsheba after he had her husband killed. That was so presumptuous on my part! And her first husband is still alive to this day, so I had no claim to the girl!
On top of this, in both occasions I used the occult to cast a spell that would bring the girl to me. So I indulged in a forbidden practice, then was filled with pride when I was successful.
This is the mark of utter depravity, and truth is we are depraved without Jesus, and I mean the real Jesus of the gospel of Christ - not this nonsense Jesus false teachers preach, that is all about prosperity, and emotion, and you having power because you are like God. False Prophets preach this trash, and they will even accept a lifestyle like I had, when in reality I should have been disciplined and put out of the church, which only one pastor did. All the rest, about 6 or so, they accepted me in the congregation with a woman married to someone else!
That's the big problem in churches today: you got a Jezebel spirit like the church of Thyatira, and pastors turning the other way when members are in adultery, and fornication, drunk, idolatrous - and they don't call them out. Many don't even preach against sin any more, and some, quite a few actually, affirm people in their sin, even abominations like sodomy, transgender, and all type of vile wickedness.
And I was once in that place too, where I claimed to know Christ but hey, if you were gay, I won't judge. I don't do it, but I'll let it slide. Well I was the drunken Christian too, and dabbled in sorcery, both magic, and on occasion drugs, even drugs shamans use like Peyote, Amanita mushrooms, and Datura.
I can tell you, that dark spirit world is scary! But what should be more scary is an Awesome and holy and angry God who must judge sin, and those bound in the occult, and an immoral lifestyle, I pray they get delivered because the price is too high.
The LORD calls us to repent! Except ye repent, ye shall likewise perish. You shall know them by their fruits, Jesus said. And, not everyone who says to Him, Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only they who do the will of the Father in heaven. And, this is the will of God, that ye abstain from fornication. Adulterers, fornicators, drunkards, abusers of themselves with mankind: that is arsenkoites, men sleeping with men, shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
I preach to myself as well, to be sure I remain in the Father's will, and do not return as a dog to its vomit, or a sow wallowing in the mire. And I'll speak and write the gospel of Christ without compromise. I will proclaim we are all dead in sin by Adam, and the only life is through Jesus Christ our Lord, by His gift of salvation, purchased by His own blood shed on the cross for your sin and my sin, and that we must believe, not just intellectually, not doing things our way, but believing the entirety of the Bible, and that our life conforms to what we believe, and what the Scriptures teach.
Anything else is false, and all false Prophets and false Christ's do is coddle people in their sins, making them twofold more a child of hell, whose damnation is not very far off, whose end is destruction and everlasting burnings, and the dread mists of darkness forever.
Follow the LORD then in love, and love that is not afraid to confront, and warn as you would your own child facing danger, and follow peace, and holiness, for we are called, and if we are chosen in Him who calls us, we are ordained to be conformed to His likeness, following His example, and to even walk as He walked, the spotless Lamb of God, whom death could not hold, and the risen Son of God, seated now at the right hand of the Father to make intercession for us.
Therefore confess your sins and he is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness - don't overlook that second part of the verse, cleanse us from all unrighteousness, so that we become the righteousness of God in Christ: Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness.
Flee from sin, mortifying the flesh, walk in the Spirit.
