The United Church of Chirst has this wonderful slogan, "God is still speaking." I just love that. God is still speaking to us, do we listen? I was wondering if you believed God is still speaking to us, or did we get the last message 2000 years ago and that's it. What does it mean to you that God is still speaking to us?

BTW, I would have loved to have put this in the WWMC forum, because I really don't want this to be flamed by the fundies.

I think God continues to reveal Godself to creation on a daily basis. This is, of course, my short answer.

I'm hoping we don't get flamebombed, but I am wearing my asbestos boxer briefs, just in case.

I have no desire to flame you, but, you statment begs the question, if you wanted this in the WWMC, why didn't you?

God Bless

Because I cannot post there because I am Unitarian, and therefore not a Christian as defined by the rules of the forum. So I had to post it here and hope for the best.

I realize that, but thought I'd get my 2 cents in before it happened. ;)

I love to hear your opinion on the "God is Still Speaking" question.
I doubt that many believers would opt for the No God is not still speaking option.
I suspect that what you are asking is How do you know that the Bible wasn't the last time God spoke? Is that correct?

If the bible is your guide, we know that Jesus said "I will not abandon you and leave you as orphans, I will send my spirit."
If you use the Holy Spirit as your guide then you know that the bible is like a finger pointing at the moon. You will already know that still small voice when you listen.

I'm with the UCC 100% on the Still Speaking thing and for that matter with just about everything else they stand for.

I love the finger pointing to the moon imagery. It is an excellent way of holding scripture in reverance and seeing it as truth without making it the object of worship.

Thanks. Too often people focus upon the finger and not what it's pointing to.

The map is not the territory.

I love that also.

I think God is still speaking to us. I don't think He speaks to us as He did to the prophets. He speaks to us individually via the Holy Spirit, the problem most of us aren't listening or don't understand or simply don't like His message when we do hear it. Most people probably only think of God speaking to them in some huge fashion, i.e. answered prayers of petition regarding sickness or money etc.

I think He speaks to us in many ways, through children, especially children, through and Nature and often times he speaks to us through ways we really don't like such as through trials and tribulations, which often means we don't listen or don't like what we hear so we ignore it. It is all about faith, even when we don't like what we hear.

13 posts and no flames yet! Woohoo!

I especially like the comma imagery "Never place a period where God has placed a comma, GOD IS STILL SPEAKING". The reason I like it is that it places the timeframe of God's action into proper perspective, commas with thousands of year pauses, I dig it.

I believe God has already told us all He thinks we need to know for salvation. Whether or not He still speaks on other issues, I honestly have no idea but I'm willing to bet that He does.
