I love bumper stickers. However, I found two the other day affixed to a car that really got me going.</B>

I love bumper stickers. They can be funny, embarrassing, poignant, infuriating, and almost any other adjective you can think of. They can also be embarrassing when read by your child, sitting in the back seat, asking for an explanation of something you had never intended to talk to them about yet. You know the ones I mean.
They are moving billboards for anyone to see. I’ve seen stickers that I wish were never published, and then some that hit such a strong chord with me that I tell whomever will listen to me.

The other day I was stunned by two bumper stickers on the same car. On one side of the bumper the sticker read, “Keep Abortion Legal.” On the other side of the bumper the sticker read, “Capital Punishment is Dead Wrong.”

I have to admit, at first I thought nothing of these bumper stickers. Then after further thought, I began to become pretty infuriated and disgusted by them.

I started to ask internal questions. Does the owner of this car not realize the statements they are making? Do they not see what they are broadcasting to anyone who’s willing to look at their bumper? I’ll bet they had no clue.

This person appeared to have no inkling that these stickers on their car were both promoting and protesting death at the same time. Let’s see, kill the babies, but don’t kill the bad guys. Kill the innocent, but don’t kill those who have been proven guilty in our courtrooms by a judicial system that protects the very use of attaching those stickers to one’s car.

I cannot describe how irritated and flabbergasted I continue to be. I’ve tried.

It astounds me that in one instance this person thinks death is OK and in the same breath, they state that it’s wrong. Does that ring in your conscience as loud as it does in mine? Do they have those stickers on their car because it’s the “in thing?” Or do they really believe these things? If so, I do pray that they will learn the truth. The truth that our Lord Jesus Christ died for people just like this: the confused, the “in” people, simply because it’s the thing to believe in with probably very little proof to back their argument/stance.

The Bible is very clear on how precious children are, born and unborn.

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."

-Psalm 139:13-16

"Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him."

-Psalm 127:3

There are many more scriptures throughout the Bible that prove how precious life is to God.

As to man’s law and what we are supposed to do when the law(s) are broken, the Bible is also very clear. You can see examples of it from Judges on through the Bible when Moses had to establish the 12 judges so that he was not the only enforcing the law: God and man’s law. Furthermore, even Paul shared with us the authority of man given to us by God himself in Romans 13:1-7. In those passages Paul stated that God gives that authority to man’s government. They are God’s agents and therefore are able to make laws that govern over the people. If you break those laws you will suffer the consequences of both man’s law and ultimately God’s law.

Well, as you can probably see, these stickers really bothered me. We live in a world in which contradictions are the norm. Where morality is bad and doing what you want is good. Where killing the innocent is correct and bringing justice to those who have been declared guilty. Where I must respect your beliefs and opinions, but don’t dare let me share my own. There is one clear non-contradiction that can never be slanted, spun, twisted, etc. and that is God’s love for us. He’s loves us even when we’re confused, contradicted, lost, etc…

When we get in those sticky situations, remember to turn to Him. Also remember to pray for those who don’t even realize that they are in the midst of stickiness. God‘s love is the universal unsticky solvent.
