You kiss the feet of a carved image of someone and dress them up as a child would dress their dolls and say this is just honor? This statues wear clothes... I mean come on.
Read above posts.. Women did not teach children the scriptures.. The fathers did..
yeah, we do make them look cute, don't we?You kiss the feet of a carved image of someone and dress them up as a child would dress their dolls and say this is just honor? This statues wear clothes... I mean come on.
How can you give honour to a graven image? or for want of a better word, a carved model?
only superficially does it appear to be given to the image . . the honor is being given to the one the image represents.
.
Bowing is NOT adoration, at least not in Eastern cultures, in which Christianity was born and bred.To honor.. We can Honor Paul by respecting His obedience to Gods calling in His life.. We can also Honor Mary for being blessed among woman.. But to bow them is more than honor This is adoration.. This alone should be given to God Alone.. For it is from Him that all blessings flow.. Not from the blessed..God is the one whom blessed them..
Again, Tyndale . . you still have not gotten to first base. . .So the image is the "likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:"

So, when a chinese person bows to another chinese person, they are adoring them?.
This seems to bother the SDA the most though... I don't why?Hi. Just a quick question. Why does it really bother other Christ-ians concerning this? I actually seen no problem with it, even though I myself do not use statuettes for biblical purposes.
1 Timo 1:4 nor to give heed to fables and endless genealogies, that cause questions rather than the building up of God that is in faith: -- 5 And the end of the charge is love out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned,
Sorry, mate. There's a distinct point of culture here. The Western origins and use of bowing differs from the Eastern origins and use of bowing. Whatever you people do to statues is by your own making. You make no point trying to pull in Eastern customs. A Chinese / Japanese person bowing may have something completely different in mind than a Western person bowing.
because of how we have degraded this down to us thinking we don't have to honer anyone. It's a matter of pride in disguise. In my younger days, I bowed before a woman and kiss her hand when greeted (as taught by my mother). Why men don't do that today?
Just bring this up when the discussion of "bowing" came up.
Again, Tyndale . . you still have not gotten to first base. . .
For this verse to apply, the image has to be a god itself . . .
If it isn't, this verse doesn't apply . . .
.
snap...Bowing is NOT adoration, at least not in Eastern cultures, in which Christianity was born and bred.
Don't try to impose modern Western sensiblities on a culture foreign both in time and space to yours.
Umm . are you forgetting how Christianity started?
Catholicism retains many Eastern customs . . . . . so why are do protestants judge us on eastern customs that are ancient and we have retained?
Just because some Protestant groups didn't retain these Eastern customs, does that give those protestants the right to sit in judgement of us for choosing to retain such eastern customs?
You make my earlier point for me . . . one culture cannot sit in judgement of the customs of another . .
So why do you presume to do so?
