• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hey everybody, I was saved last year and I was actively involved at church for a couple of months. But then, i just started backing away and didn't go back for a while and kind of started backing off from God too. About a month ago, I started growing closer to God again, have been to church, and a couple bible study's. The thing i just realized though, is that my motivation for going in the first place in both of these situations was because a girl that i liked invited me, and i know i wouldn't of gone otherwise. The good thing, is that even though they are the reason i came, it has helped me both times to grow closer to God, but is it wrong that this was the only reason I would be closer to God is because of that? thanks

Remember Adam & Eve's mistake - they mistook knowledge of God for the Life.

Going to a "church" that gives you knowledge does not make you closer to God neccessarily. You need to be "born again" by receiving God's Life, the Holy Spirit.

Don't be to hard on yourself. God will use any reason or anyone to draw us to Him. That might have been the only thing that would get you to even go to church at that time. Remember God knows us better than we know ourselves.

The thing you don't want to do now is to have that remain to be the reason you go to church. Seek God for who He is and what's He's done for you.

I've heard plenty of men say that God set them up to be saved by using a girl they liked to get them in church. They only went to look good to her, however, the whole time, God was drawing them closer to Him and then the next thing they knew, they were saved.

Well, you seem to be getting back on track with God and this is a good thing.
If you had said you didn't give a flip about church or god, but instead your only interest was the girl, then that wouldn't be a good thing.

This situation appears to be bearing good fruit. That's where it counts.

Wow that pretty much my story. The girl I love and my best friend started inviting me to youth group. After that I started going to church on Sundays. At the creation festival I gave my life to God and was saved. She's not the reason I'm a Christian or anything though, she just got me started on becoming a Christian.
