  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Starship Troopers is a 1997 American military science fiction film, written by Edward Neumeier (screenplay), directed by Paul Verhoeven, loosely adapted from Starship Troopers, a science fiction novel by Robert A. Heinlein. It was the first of three films released in the Starship Troopers franchise. The film had a budget estimated around $105 million and grossed over $121 million worldwide.

The story follows a young soldier named Johnny Rico and his exploits in the Mobile Infantry, a futuristic military unit. Rico's military career progresses from recruit to non-commissioned officer and finally to officer against the backdrop of an interstellar war between mankind and an arachnoid species known as "the Bugs".

Starship Troopers was nominated for an Academy Award (visual effects) in 1998. The film has attracted controversy and criticism for its social and political themes, which some critics claim promote militarism.

Most dissapointing film ever.

I remember seeing a blurb about the film that said something like "Until recently it was not possible to depict the technology Heinlein described in Starship Troopers".

Then to see a film with weapons that are less then we actually have today.

And Johnny Rico as blond haired and blue eyed!

The film promotes militarism?

I hate the film, I'd be happy to heap criticism on it. But that one is totally off base. The military is hardly shown in a positive light in the film.

I can understand Douger's point. Heck I might even agree with it if the film had been original rather than a near complete reversal of the book.

i liked this film. i mean it isnt oscar material and sure some of it is bad but i enjoyed the satire of it all. IT is really a play on fascism and militarism. Remember the scene where all the troops blindly run into the enemy army guns ablazin? It's satire, it's not actually promoting these things as it is making fun of them. i mean their entire mitlitary set up in that movie is rediculous. almost everything is wrong about what they do! i liked that.

plus some of the scenes are pretty funny involving the military strategy and such.
