  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Eucharistic Prayer C with Jedi garb makes for a fun Sunday. :p

The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give him thanks and praise.
God of all power, Ruler of the Universe, you are worthy of
glory and praise.
Glory to you for ever and ever.
At your command all things came to be: the vast expanse of
interstellar space, galaxies, suns, the planets in their courses,
and this fragile earth, our island home.
By your will they were created and have their being.
From the primal elements you brought forth the human race,
and blessed us with memory, reason, and skill. You made us
the rulers of creation. But we turned against you, and betrayed
your trust; and we turned against one another.
Have mercy, Lord, for we are sinners in your sight.
Again and again, you called us to return. Through prophets
and sages you revealed your righteous Law. And in the
fullness of time you sent your only Son, born of a woman, to
fulfill your Law, to open for us the way of freedom and peace.
By his blood, he reconciled us.
By his wounds, we are healed.
And therefore we praise you, joining with the heavenly
chorus, with prophets, apostles, and martyrs, and with all
those in every generation who have looked to you in hope, to
proclaim with them your glory, in their unending hymn:

The Force be with you!

Anyone else a Star Wars/Trek Fan?
Well, I was raised on the old Star Trek, with William Shatner. Never really got into the newer versions, must have been too busy studying at Uni during that era. :D
(I laugh, because I didn't study that much).

My son (aged 7) is a really big Star Wars fan. At the last birthday party he went to, it was a costume party ("fancy dress" is what the Brits call it). My son went as Darth Sidius (don't know if I spelled that right).

I'm only a Star Trek fan as far as seeing every episode of every series and watching each movie in the theatres (even the first one, which my Mom took me to when I was 4 yrs old) . My wife and friends call me a Trekkie, but I don't dress up or go to conventions (mostly because there are no conventions that come here;) ).

I'm also a big Star Wars fan with regards to the original trilogy. The new trilogy was not as good, but I still enjoyed them.

Peace.

I'm definitely a Star Trek fan. I watch all the television shows and movies (Okay, I own all the movies ) and read a lot of the books. I draw the line at costumes, though. :) I don't know if that disqualifies me as an official Trekker or not. ;) Anyone else excited about the new Star Trek movie they're working on? I hear it's preliminarily set to come out in 2008 and feature a young Kirk and a young Spock (Played by new actors, of course).

I've seen the Star Wars films a couple times, but I can't really say I'm a fan. I really only liked about half of the movies. I still can't watch "A New Hope" without forwarding through the boring desert scenes at the beginning or "Return of the Jedi" without forwarding through anything involving an Ewok (Yes, I know that's about half the movie! :)). On the other hand, it's an interesting universe and "The Empire Strikes Back" was a great piece of cinema. The new trilogy was okay. It's good popcorny fun, but I can't say it really captures my imagination the way that Star Trek does.

I am going to anger everyone, but I am a fan of the New trilogy, and TNG.

I like The Next Generation. In fact, I would say TNG is may favorite of the Trek TV series (although I am partial to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th movies with the original group). As far as Star Wars goes though, I was 7, 10, and 13 when the original movies came out so I am obviously partial to them, but I do like the new trilogy. Revenge of the Sith was great, and even Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones had their great moments (the climactic Darth Sidious lightsaber fight is my favorite saber fight of the whole series). Like many other SW fans though, I find it hard to watch the Jar Jar/little kid Anakin scenes in Phantom Menace, as wells as the horrid romantic scenes between Anakin and Amidala in Attack of the Clones.

An old online aquaintance photoshopped that for me (yes, that's me there), but if you really want it, PM me your email and I'll be happy to give you a copy :)

Edit: Episodes I-III didn't bother me. Yeah, they were a little weaker, but to be honest, I thought they were still exceptional. And as for TNG, dude, that is the Star Trek I grew up with.

Now if you really want to anger people, you should say something (and mean something) like this: The Original Series was just plain awful trash. The OS movies were excellent, but not the actual TV series. Shatner is a far better Denny Crain than he was Admiral/Captain Kirk in the TV show (though an excellent Kirk in the movies).

Voyager all the way!!! I can abide TNG but DS9 and the original T.V series really irk me-- Suprisinginly I found that the books were semi-decent, infact I quite enjoyed Christie Golden's Dark Matter... As for, Star Wars well although I certainly prefer Star Trek, I still enjoy watching the television re-runs of the movie every now and then...
I am going to anger everyone, but I am a fan of the New trilogy

Thats exactly what I say (I was at the premier of Star Wars Episode II-- Long story but suffice it to say that I have my 'connections'... ;) ), and likewise upset a number of people who claim that I have no appreciation of the skill and artistic value of the original series--

My wife and friends call me a Trekkie, but I don't dress up or go to conventions (mostly because there are no conventions that come here;) ).

A good friend of my mothers, who lives in Western Australia is actually flying to Las Vegas for this years convention.... Now is that dedication or what!

Oh man, I just love Denny Crane! And Alan Shore too! What a great show.
