  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Fate and Divination are ideas which Christians reject because they are counter to a Christian understanding of the universe. There is no such thing as Fate (astrology is, at its core, a belief in Fate written in the stars); and trying to divine events by various means, whether by looking at the stars or by tossing animal bones, is regarded as vain superstition.

The magi were convinced that the appearance of a particular star signified something important, and it led them to find the Christ-Child in Bethlehem. This, of course, doesn't provide a justification for trying to read the stars. God used a literal donkey to speak at one point, but that doesn't mean one should go around trying to take advice from donkeys.

If I'd of known this sooner it would of saved me a lot of trouble. Plus my house would be way cleaner.
