  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Recently I've taken on a project with faux stained glass. Our church camp: www.geocities.com/careyscamp will be having caroling in December. I've taken 1 gallon pickle jars and painted with glass paint on them to make stained glass luminaries. We will be putting candles in them and sitting them around our camp. The leading is also paint. We had a couple craft nights at church to complete 50 of them. I hope they look as pretty as I think they will.

Now on to the more traditional stained glass. I would love to try it, I know how to solder....little clumsy with glass though.

Its takes patience and practice.... its definitely not a hobby for someone who needs instant gratification. Sometimes.. I have to remind myself that like my christian life not everything is instant just because we want it to be.

Right now I'm working on a piece for my sister, she found a piece of old glass my mother had painted on like 25 years ago. so now i've made a design to make a stained glass frame for it...

Glass doesn't always do what we hope and think its going to... breaks in the wrong places... sometimes you have to do it again, sometimes it becomes part of the design.

Funny... sounds like God's work huh?

Joy, I've gotten into a lot of things over the years and all of them give me pause to reflect on my life and thank God for my talents. I love to paint (may not be that good at it), but while painting my mind wanders. It's a nice "down" time for my system to get all the stressors out. If I decide to take the leap of faith in the stained glass arena, you may be hearing from me for some pointers.

I wish you well with your Christmas pieces. They sound very interesting. Are you using the foil method or lead came?

I'm still working on the piece for my sister... hope to have it done before Thanksgiving. We shall see.

I don't know about you but I have a hard time carving out time to just do what I want instead of housework or errands.

yeah me too. If only I had more time in the day. I still probablyl wouldnt have enough time. Single parent, work full time, gotta keep up the house, yard, cooking, cleaning, shopping, fixing, and then always try to remember to put God first. Stay in the Word, pray, study, fellowship, and then try to have some time for self. If only I was more organized maybe. Yep...I wish you well with your project too. Thanksgiving is only 2 weeks away. Do you think as long as we have all of eternity, that in heaven we will get to do fun stuff like art, music, sports etc.? What exactly is going to occupy our time for all of eternity...when time ceases to exsist.?
But back to the subject...I am doing copper foil but after I get that down i would like to try lead came. At the rate I am going, that may not happen in my lifetime so I surely hope there is "arts and crafts" in heaven ;)

Gotta say I havent heard of it. But I have sorta been trying not to get too sidetracked from the current efforts. Sounds easy though and next time I go to the stained glass store Im gonna check it out. Like you said, that would be good for some temporary decor....if its not too expensive.

I am a decorative glass artist (I do it for a living). & we do a little stained glass work, primarily etched glass though. & I also specialize in the appliques to simulate stained glass & etched glass as well. (they are great when the glass is already in place, but someone wants to dress it up). there are a number of different products most of which are light translucent. Although not true to the "time-consuming" craftsmenship of stained glass, you can really get some cool effects. But if you have any questions about glass, I'd love to try & answer your questions:D

Here I'll post a couple ( these are dividing walls )
