Hey all

I'm wondering how common stained glass windows are in Baptist churches. Recently I was stuck in traffic in a nearby town and I saw an old stone church with beautiful stained glass windows. I knew it wasn't Catholic (I was on my way to a CC in the same town) and I thought maybe its Episcopal? Lutheran? To my surprise it was Baptist. I pictured all Baptist churches as not having stained glass windows. It said on the sign it was part of the "ABC," which I'm guessing is the "American Baptist Conference" or something like that?

There is one here i can think of, but it is old, it has stained glass all around and i mean big beautiful stained glass. The newer churches don't seem to want to put money into the beauty of the church, i can see their point but the ones with stained glass are beautiful.

the church we just moved out of last month had a little bit of stained glass.. and it wasn't pretty compared the stuff in the churches I grew up in (Catholic). Our new building doesn't have stained glass at all, but is a very beautiful building anyway.

I do not know of any Baptist Church buildings actually built by Baptists that have stained glass in them. I know that several buildings once owned by other denominations were purchased by Baptists, and those do have stained glass. I believe it happens up north more than it does down south or in the Bible belt states.

But, that is just my opinion, based on my observations over the years.....

Many baptist churches have stained glass windows.

The church I got saved in, Bethel Baptist, in Pleasant Grove, Al, had them.

A baptist church I went to briefly in Medford, NJ had them.

My church now has them.

Hey Matthan,
This might be the case with the one I saw. Its in New Jersey, and even without the stained glass, its outside looked more "Anglican," and it was very old - it is small and built entirely of stones.

The Southern Baptist Church in my town has stained glass windows but they have no images on them. They are just plain colored stained glass windows. Also, they are only the windows in the foyer that are stained glass.

I'm a huge fan of Lottie Moon. I've always been fascinated by her.

I went into a church once that had her in one of it's windows. That was pretty cool.

Pretty uncommon actually, which is unfortunate....I'm sure God appreciates beauty in His houses...though I think, at least in our area (Bible belt) that they're so anti-catholic that anythign that even remote resembles catholicism is a big no no...cause I haven't found anythign biblical that says we can't adorn our sanctuaries.

and in all honesty...our baptismal is screaming for stained glass....it just looks so incomplete with just the plain wall....
but there again I guess i just made my own point there....personal preference?

God Bless you ps139 :)

Maybe I'll have to start saving up and put a window a year in until the sanctuary is filled with stained glass :p

i live in Ontario, Canada...i don't know if that has something to do with it but many of our Baptist churches have stainglass windows including my current church and my home church.

Interestingly enough - one church recently purchased a stainglass window. $16000...food for thought. They are beautiful (no question), but i'm sure the reason why so many have moved away from it is the cost...
