• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

How long has your longest "stable" time been (not high, not low... just... well... normal). This is the longest I've been stable in my life and it's frankly kinda freaky (going on 3 months)
I have been pretty stable for 2 or 3 years now. Yeah I have had a few ups and downs but nothing major that I can't handle. At first it was kind of freaky but now it is my norm. It is larghely due to the right meds and some lifestyle changes.

nice to see you

you're one of my fav posters in CF (I didn't know we had this in common)

I'm just weirded out because I'm not on meds at all... and I'm fine (and DH even says I'm fine which is a miracle in itself because he likes to blame my bipolar for my moods )

well thank you Elsan. Yep, I found out I was BP in 2001. I worked hard in counseling and therapy and have stablized myself since. So stable that I no longer need counseling.

It is great that you are stablizing without meds!!! I am on 5 meds to stablize me. I was in and out of the hospital several times in the early stages. It seemed like a little stability cam with each new med added. Wish I could do it without meds but I would only land back in the hospital if I came off them. So....guess I'll stick with them and be thankful that they work...

I did the whole "med tour" and ended up hospitalized, but not because of the bipolar, but because of the meds (lithium poisoning).

Mind if I ask what you take? I have such problems with side effects.
Vistril, Lamictal, Ambilify, Busbar, and Trazodone......I don't have too many side effects from them other than short term memory loss

I haven't tried Vistril or Buspar. Trazodone kicks my butt... Abilify has the restless leg thing that gets me (though it works great for the bipolar) and Lamictal was like water... nada.

You sound like you went through lots of trial meds too.

Oh well. I just don't know how to feel about being this way and not being treated. I shudder to think "I'm better" because I don't want to delude myself.

No I didn't really go through a lot of trial meds as such. These are all the first time meds. The only drug I ever had side effects from was Risperdol. After that they found the right meds that worked for me. I take that back, I was also on lexapro. It worked wonders for me but when ambilify came out my Dr wanted to try it out on me and it worked even better.
