Ah! God tests a persons faith! have strength Photini and remember those ignorant children are only injuring themselves while trying to injure noah. As good christians as hard as it may be me should prey for their salvation.

But I really fear that if I stay here much longer, my kids will become little hellions too. See, I live in subsidized housing, and decided to stay here another year because my rent was reduced drastically very recently. But I am beginning to wonder if it is worth it, with all the drug dealing and rif-raff that is going on. For the sake of the kids, I wonder if it would be better for me to grit my teeth and bear it to live in a more expensive place. I cannot fathom how I would do it, but I need to do something.

Sort of the same situation Iam in choosing wether or not to move. Children often reflect the enviornment they are brought up in. If that Enviornment is violent then you are taking a chance of having your children exposed to these bad behaviours. If yo have the means I personally suggest you move especialy since the problem children are related to the owners!!!!!!! You are welcome

Actually that's my "rejoin" date. I was around before the Big Crash. I first joined CF under a different username...I think my actual join date is in February or March of 2003. I remember the first Orthodox people I encountered here (in the old IDD area) was Oblio, CopticOrthodox, and Philip. I thought you were around before the Crash too Maximus.

I forgot about that!

I joined at the same time Oblio and Philip did (give or take a day or so). I had already known them for over a year at TBTSNBN (aka Calvin's Geneva) and OC.net. Philip was a conservative Anglican when I first encountered him.

We were over at OC.net when some nice Evangelical lady popped over and invited us all here. TAW was brand new and wasn't even called that yet. There were just a handful of us and not much going on. In fact, I spent most of my time - along with just about everyone else - arguing in the old IDD (I miss it).

We were the first Orthodox here.

Well.. went in the opposite direction today (Geographically speaking ) and visited the local Antiochian church. It was somewhat different than the OCA church I've been attending.

What'd you think? I like Antiochian churches but I go to an OCA church. Is it as grand as Christ the Savior?

Well..... It's bigger, brighter & 'roomier'..has padded pews & kneelers. Some of the chanting had a different sound to it. Speaking of sound... it had microphones... I'm not sure why, it shouldn't be THAT hard to reach the back row
What struck me.. I got there just as it was starting, & I noticed NO Icon venerating, before or after the service- people lined up at the end, kissed the cross the priest held & headded out of the sanctuary.
They did have service books in the pews & I managed to find the right place twice (I think),,along with a laminated page with a communal pre & post communion prayer on it.

Truth be told... next week I'll be back to Christ The Savior (which by the way, appears to be the smallest of the local Orthodox Churches around here)

Weird! No icon venerating? My experience with Antiochian churches has been, like, excessive signs of devotion... as there are so many converts...

In my OCA church there's a lot of icon venerating and it makes me joyful!

Christ the Savior sounds amazing.

Good afternoon, folks. Church was great today. After Liturgy and Trapeza, Father blessed our cars (four total), and I'm getting accustomed to this "doing Orthodox things in public" thing...meaning processing, singing, blessing, etc. Very nice, and very hot today. One week after my Christmation, today, and I finally feel like I've snapped out of a week of recovery. Recovery of what? I think it was just a long transition, a decision that has taken me many years to make. I feel very free and happy right now.

And this is a nice forum.

I still haven't figured out the icon venerating. I feel very artificial doing it. I do love icons! Just haven't gotten into the flow of this yet.

Right. I remember when Philip was baptised. He had a counter in his sig that was counting down the days and minutes until his baptism.

Which reminds me...My baptism birthday is June 29th. I'll be two years old.

Maybe a car blessing is what I needed today. THe car GOT me to church, but wouldn't start when it was time to leave. It's still there now. I have to call a towing service tomorrow and get them to take it somewhere to have it looked at.
