As most of my friends and acquaintances know, I have been reading St. Alphonsus de Liguori's The Glories of Mary and I've got to say it really lifts my heart, this really may be one of the greatest books on Mary ever written! The Glories of Mary, starts out with St. Alphonsus doing a line by line commentary on the Salve Regina and concludes with a prayer. Though I was considering on waiting until I've finished reading the Salve Regina commentary, I've decided to post the prayers St. Alphonsus has written on the lines of the Salve Regina here to help myself and my fellow-Catholics deepen their Salve Regina prayer.
Salve Regina
Hail holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us. And after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary,
V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
