i understand that in the great commision jesus sent out his disciples and told them to spread the word but are there any reasons why a christian wouldn't try and spread the word to non-believers?

Do you mean "wouldn't" or "shouldn't?"

would they even be really pushy about it just to try and convert people?

"Converting people" is not something that a created being does.  We share the Gospel and God converts.

You should share the Good News to anyone that will listen. I dont agree with being pushy, it has the opposite effect that you want. I totally agree with Reform. We witness, God converts
