I’m referring to the ones Paul mentions in Romans and Jesus mentions in Matthew 5:21-22, as well as Matthew 18:21-35 that deal with unforgiveness as well as those Paul mentions in Galatians 5:19-21.

Basically the teachings of Christ have many different things we need to do, which is why John wrote:

Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. 2 John 9

The doctrine of Christ is also about love; Loving God and loving our neighbor.

Those who hate, do not have eternal life.

Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. 1 John 3:15

And you follow these commandments perfectly?

If you asked do I practice sin, I would say no.

You asked follow these commandments perfectly, so I would have to say, no.

What does what I do or don’t do, have to do with what Jesus commanded?

Do we follow man or do we follow Jesus?

I have learned as I have progressed in these things to sow to the Spirit, rather than sowing to my flesh, so that my spirit man stays strong by being filled with His Spirit and His word so that I put to death the deeds of my sinful flesh, which is to say, I crucify my flesh so that I do not practice the works of the flesh.

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. Galatians 6:7-8

  • he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.

Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21

You won’t find me asking you or anyone else about their sin, because it’s a sure sign of making excuses for sin that I don’t want to repent of and confess so that I’m cleansed of all unrighteousness.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
1 John 1:8-9

I guess my question is: what line do you have to cross in order to be able to say, "I've followed Jesus good enough," or "I've obeyed the commandments well enough." Where does the Bible specify?

I can only tell you what the Bible says for us to do, and say it is by His grace; the Spirit of grace that we have the power to practice righteousness rather than practice the works of the flesh.

He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 1 John 2:4

again

For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. 1 John 5:3

His Commandments are not burdensome.

If you find it burdensome to love God, then you have a sin issue.

Go to Him and confess your sin, and be cleansed of all unrighteousness.

Invest your time by spending time with Him in prayer, pray in the Spirit, read and study the word, worship Him...

These are ways we can invest or sow to the Spirit.

But how much is good enough? And how much is bad enough to where I don't have eternal life? As someone who seeks to be saved, I need to know the line according to what the Bible says.

What line?

Of course there are principles involved, such as to whom many ch is given, much is expected.

Do we require from a baby, what we require from an adult?

You have a living relationship with Christ.

He dwells in you and speaks to you.

first sentence of the post is wrong. What am I to think about the rest of it? Seriously, how does one consider the rest if the post when sentence one is wrong?
If you study Paul, the doctrine in the Bible that is specifically to you, you will know that God’s righteousness is imputed to those who are washed in the Blood of the Lamb. It is clearly explained in Romans 3:22-28:

Romans 3:22-28 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what Law? Of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

That clearly shows God’s righteousness imputed to believers.

Verse 25 “sins that are past”. Works salvationists use this to justify their position. To try and prove that it is only past sins. Because they ignore Paul they have absolutely no clue what happens when a person trusts Christ, the gospel in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, How that Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose again.

Once a person trusts that Christ died for their sins, was buried, and rose again that person is crucified with Christ, Gal 2:20. They are baptized into his death, Romans 6:3. They are complete in Christ, Col 2:10. They are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ, Col 2:11. They are dead and their life is hid with Christ in God, Col 3:3. They are sealed by the Holy Spirit, Eph 1:13. For how long? Until the day of redemption, Eph 4:30. They have been quickened (made alive), raised up, and made to sit in heavenly places, Eph 2:5,6. They are blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places, Eph 1:3. They have received the atonement NOW, Romans 5:11.

If you back up a little to Romans 2, you get some context.

But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who “will render to each one according to his deeds”: eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath, tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek; but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For there is no partiality with God.
For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law (for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified; for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves, who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them) in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.
Romans 2:5-16

Key Verse:

  • eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality;
  • but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath,

Here is who will receive eternal life:

  • eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality;

Any other Gospel that you will hear, that does not give all Credit to Christ Alone for saving you and keeping you saved, is a false Gospel.
I believe this. I also believe one can stop believing in Christ by trusting in other things/ false religion for salvation. One of those things is works. But God is the judge of who is in or out.

Jude 1:24...To Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before His Glorious presence without fault and great joy...

This is iT, PASIFIKA....
YOU NAILED IT.

Now listen to me, you heretics who are reading me and are "feeling funny".
Are you following me? You need to .
You better pay attention to that funny feeling and go DIRECTLY back to the CROSS and STAY THERE, Theologically !

Listen.....There is only ONE who can present you before God, as "The righteousness of Christ", and THIS is all that God will accept, to accept you.
You are NOT the "one".
Jesus IS Salvation.
Jesus IS Grace.
Understand? Salvation is not a "do"... Its a "done".......You are not kept saved by a "do this" LIST..... You are saved by the Blood and kept saved by the BLOOD.
Bottom line !!

Its a theological tragedy, that many heretics here, actually think they can equal the righteousness of Christ by their "lifestyle"..by their doing STUFF, .... in their self righteous effort to compete with .. what only God accepts to accept you, = THE FINISHED work of Jesus on the Cross.
He will not accept YOU heretic, unless Christ has made you acceptable. And your works won't do it.
Are you listening? ???
You are in above your head here, Heretic. You are drowning within that self righteousness you want to spit back at me..
Im talking to you about the BLOOD of Jesus, and you want to climb the walls because you only want to list your WORKS and COMMANDMENTS and stuff you do, that you are failing to realize can't substitute for the GRACE OF GOD. That's why you are Fallen from it......

Even LOGIC is no use to these Cross rejectors. They can't even logically conclude...."well, how can i keep myself saved, by what could not save me before CHRIST SAVED ME'""""...
I MEAN REALLY, YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE TO SIT THERE AND SHOUT AT THE CROSS BECAUSE YOU PREFER TO BE YOUR OWN SAVIOR, Mr and Mrs WORK TO STAY SAVED !!
STOP.
TURN FROM YOUR OWN SELF RIGHTEOUSNESS.
TURN BACK TO THE CROSS, TO THE BLOOD, TO THE SAVIOR, AND STOP TRYING TO DO WHAT ONLY HE HAS ALREADY ACCOMPLISHED FOR YOU. = "The GIFT of Righteousness".

"""""""but you see DW, i read this verse out of context that told me to>......""""""

STOP WITH THAT. !

Throw those commentaries away those Heretics wrote that have ruined your faith and your Christianity.
Open your NT and start with :
Romans 3:21-28 Hebrews 12:2 Hebrews 13:9 Philippians 1:6 Titus 3:5 and Romans 4:8
AND, stay OUT of Matthew, James and Hebrews.......Stay OUT OF THERE.
Instead go to Epheisans, Colossians, Philippians, Romans Chapters 3-7 and Galatians, and stay IN THERE until the Grace of God has lifted you out of your heresy and sat you on the ROCK OF HIS LIGHT.

Kneel at the Cross. Tell God you are sorry you have been trying to keep yourself saved.
Tell Him you are sorry you have set the Savior aside all these years and have been trusting in your self righteous LIST.
Wake up, heretic.
I'm trying to help you.
No one else is doing it !
Hear what God is saying to you.
STOP TRYING TO KEEP YOURSELF SAVED.

Get off this forum and go study.

Those who are “in Christ” are admonished by the Lord, to remain in Him, or be fast into the fire and burned.

If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. John 15:6

  • anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch

Here is how this same John instructs us to remain in Christ.

Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us. 1 John 3:24

Open your NT and start with :
Romans 3: 21-28 Hebrews 12:2 Hebrews 13:9 Philippians 1:6 Titus 3:5 and Romans 4:8
AND, stay OUT of Matthew, James and Hebrews

So we only need 6 sections of the bible? Im free to live however i want? Where sin abound grace abounded so much more??? Wake up. People run to Paul and try to hide behind him when they don't want to give up their sins. Quit drinking milk and eat some of the solid meat of the scriptures. Don't be scared to leave the writtings of Paul because you feel safe there and quit leading people astray. All throughout the Bible we see faith and works being one in the same. It's not the works that save you, its the grace of God, and because of that it causes your faith to manifest fruit. If you're not showing fruit there's a problem with the root of your faith.

"What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? alone. without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. vain man, that faith without works is dead? When he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also."

It has nothing to do with trusting in works. Works should be a manifestation of your faith.

Romans 6:15–16 "What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?"

As servants of God, we are to obey as commandments that he has written on our hearts. What are those? Love God with all your heart mind and strength and love your neighbor as yourself. The very act of loving simething takes works, the act of accepting Jesus as your personal savior is a work. Please, grow in godliness, break out of your comfort zone and really dig into the good news of the scriptures.

Here's the problem.

Everybody is somebody's heretic.

Everybody quotes Scripture.

Everybody is sure that Scripture means what they think it means.

Protestant theology is so extraordinarily diverse within itself, that one could study the differences in Soteriology alone from one denomination to another and even one theogian to another for a lifetime, and still be learning stuff.

Everybody is reading the Bible.

If you can not receive commandments from God or do any work, what can you accomplish? If there is a commandment against shedding innocent blood and you write commandment keeping is heresy, you cause trouble. If you can give a specific example of a commandment that should not be kept and God agrees with you, you do good.

Philippians 1:6..."being confident of this, that He who "began" a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus Christ...

Notice: the good work is done by Him first in you and continues until it complete...so the work you do that People can see is actually God is the one doing it in you...

Philippians 2:13..."for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose.

Thank you JLB, the verse you quote from in 1John 3:24....shows how we can abide in Him, is because of the "Spirit" whom He has given us, without the Spirit there is no real connection there neither real fruit to be seen in our lives...
