Hello, a friend of mine has had the experience of having helpful guidance about her marriage from balls of light that appeared in her room.
I wonder what Christians feel about getting advice on this, and similar, ways.
It seems in the Bible that followers sometimes get messages and guidance coming through, either directly or through dreams etc.
How can one tell if they should ignore this kind of communication, or if it would be a mistake to ignore it.
I see no reason to believe that it can't still happen... What do y'all think?

The Bible tells us that there are two supernatural agencies on Earth --
1. Angels of God - vastly capable and intelligent beings in God's service
2. Demons - fallen angels. The Devil and his angels.

Both of them can appear to humans as "beings of light".
both of them can give messages.

So that something like the above "can happen" is no doubt true.

If the message is to leave the marriage, then it's a no-brainer and the answer is it is demons.

If it contradicts the Word of God, then I'd recommend getting some pastoral help.

Else, without knowing what kind of advice it is, general principles of the Bible will be good.

"“All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up." (1 Corinthians 10:23)

Generally, if it is about loving their spouse, then it's probably legit. Why God would send an angel for one marriage is perplexing, but stranger things have happened.

I would never write off the possibility it's an outside force. That said, if the message is something along the lines of, "Get a divorce", I would be hesitant to consider it anything at all. That is because the secular world has been increasingly anti-marriage and the hundreds of story lines of cheating or unworthy spouses in the media can become embedded in the subconscious. Her dream manifestation may be nothing other than the media messages given form.

Now if the message was about doing a good deed, one they ordinarily wouldn't do or would even be opposed to doing, like being kind to an enemy... that would make me think that maybe it's not just the media or their own desires being fed back to them.

Wow a little hard to ignore a talking ball of light ! This is not from the Christian God but from the " angel of light".

2 Corinthians 11:14
This does not surprise us. Even Satan changes himself to look like an angel of light.
Blessings.

Scripture says to test the spirits.

1 John 4:1-3
4 Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world.
2 This is how we know if they have the Spirit of God: If a person claiming to be a prophet[a] acknowledges that Jesus Christ came in a real body, that person has the Spirit of God.
3 But if someone claims to be a prophet and does not acknowledge the truth about Jesus, that person is not from God. Such a person has the spirit of the Antichrist, which you heard is coming into the world and indeed is already here.../NLT

1 John 4:1-3

1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.../KJV

I posted it from two vesions for clarity.
