Almost all of my Southern ancestors fought for the Union. I have two Confederates: one was an old man (a Mexican-American War veteran) who lied about his age and made himself 10 years younger to join a cavalry unit; he was very quickly discharged "due to debility," though I suppose he would qualify me for membership. The other was an unlucky civilian who was commandeered, captured and later died in a Union POW camp.

Both would qualify you. You can use either one. All that is required is that they were discharged with an Honorable Discharge.
