• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Don't know if this is the right place to post this but man, I'm just feeling some pain at the moment. Many years ago had an experience with a guy, which has messed me around a bit. God has helped me deal with so much of it, but for a long time pain was my companion and all the other stuff, anger etc etc, blah blah. but got used to it if that makes sense.
Then got to a place where there was hope and started making plans and living, came out of depression I guess, God has been amazing really amazing, light.
This is all good but if I see something in someone else, that pain, that fear, it brings it back in a second and its almost physical pain, my whole body would react if I let it.
I don't think its healthy. Do I just try and deny this and get cold towards people or curl up in a corner and scream it out.

maxer,

As believers there a sometimes we feel an others pain and suffering so deeply, it can manifest itself inside us as real honest to goodness pain. Sometimes migraine, muscle, or joint. I am learning to temper and stifle much of that pain by using God's word as a filter. Christ was able to take on the sin of the world because He was not only fully human He was fully God. Because we are not divine we are not able to handle the stresses as Jesus did. Look at how Jesus was so stressed in the garden that His sweat was as it were great drops of blood. Man, that is some incredible stress. How did he get through it? He prayed to the Father.

We also have direct access to the Father through Christ Jesus. If we are engaged in doing what the Lord would have us to do. Loving, helping, and consoling others, He will be there with the Holy Spirit to get use through. How is that? He said I will never leave you or forsake you. He also said "Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you "

Also read again about the armour of God. Ephesians 6:13-18
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;.

I love this because we have so many weapons to use and we forget to use them. We have an all powerfull Father, His Son Jesus Christ, The Holy Spirit, The belt of God's truth, the breastplate of Jesus' righteousness, our Gospel shoes, the shield of Faith, The Helmet of Salvation, and the sword of the Spirit (God's word). This is so great having all of this stuff in one "toolbox", the Holy Bible.

This is why is said to use God's word, the Bible as a filter. We can not lose. Jesus fought and won the battle, we just need to persevere.

I pray this helps. I hope you don't think this is just rhetoric. Because to me this is as real as the blood in my veins and the skin on my bones.

God Bless,

Mike

Thanks Mike, I've recently found a bit of peace with God over this. Not completely but getting there. The verses and words confirmed some things for me re: God being divine - He can handle things we can't. Helpful perspective on the armour of God and the other verses too, thank you for your encouragment, God bless you too
