the King James version even comes up with the word strong dring

26And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household,

and thou shalt rejoice... does that ring any bell, the Lord wants us to rejoice and have fun from time to time...

another thing that strikes me in regard to the whole thing is the following

23And thou shalt eat before the LORD thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always.

fear of the Lord through drinking and feasting ?

to be honest when I first read that little chapter I was quite shocked

first because it involved tithes, which I always believed were quite strictly regulated,

second, because it involved quite a lot of fun (I believe)

btw has anyone ever seen the SDAs to set aside some of their tithes to buy food and stuff and share with the poor?? me never! so if tithes are still valid today, this sort of tithing should be too... but then the money couldnt be used for... yes, for what...

Finally you are not going to drink fermented wine in the New Jerusalem so it seem practical to prepare not to drink now!

Blessings,
stinsonmarri

besides, you are not going to get married in New Jerusalem, so it would seem practical to prepare and live a life of a single forevermore... ever thought about that?

Hey stinsonmarri

but this time you didnt comment on my posts

do you truly think the passages I presented are mistranslation, and deception? Is God really allowing a drink here, or is it again grape juice? Maybe fermented drink originally meant apple juice

Strong drink is translated from the word "shekar". "Shekar" is condemned by Solomon as a brawler (Proverbs 20:1). And Isaiah pronounces a woe upon those who "run after strong drink" (shekar) - Isa 5:11

First of all, like I mention numerous times, the Lord Himself in Deuteronomy allows that or at least thats what have read in my bible, that is why I invite everybody to freely comment on that, I am just curious about your opinions, yet nobody really commented on that verse that I quoted. I know the stuff from deuteronomy is kinda hard to accept and even understand for an SDA, first of all because it involves tithings and by doing so questions in a way the tithing system of the SDA (which is questionable indeed IMHO).

As for Solomon, what he actually condems in that verse is the man who is led astray by those... yep, thats what I read...

I know SDA generally havent got too many experiences with alcohol, and again I must point out that I, too, generally tend towards abstinence that meeting up with a few drunks and get boozed. THat is definitely not what I am advocating.

However, it is possible to have a drink a not become a brawler or a mocker, that is of course if you are wise, and only he is wise who received wisdom from the Lord, again, I am not telling anyone to start drinking as Paul says: It is good if you dont eat meat and dont drink wine!!!

it is just bad IMHO to condemn people in general who drink (lets say occasionally) and put them on a lower pedestal in regard to holiness and stuff. I mean can one be a pastor in the SDA church and have a drink from time to time? Can one be a priest in the catholic church and have a wife? Yep, I think you are getting my point!

... and I guess it is good for catholic priests not to have wifes as they will be able to spend more time with their congregation shepherding...
