• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I got a brochure and a letter from my insurance company in the mail. The brochure was called "A story of bipolar disorder". All about coping with bipolar disorder. The letter said "The purpose is to let you know that Blue Cross has resources available to you to help you cope with Bipolar disease...and one of our counselors may be contacting you...also your benefits are not being affected and you can chose not to participate in the program".

Okay so this freaks me out a little. Isn't it bad if you insurance company knows you're bipolar? How did they find out? And who told them considering I have never really been diagnosised bipolar? Is it the medication I take? Am I now in danger of having a "preexisting conidition" if I need to switch insurance companies?

Okay so it freaked me out. Strangers knowing my buisness. What do you all think?

usually the insurance finds this info out because the doctor has to use diagnosis codes in order to bill. It may be that you are on a certain med That is used to treat this disorder, I cant say for sure but that would be my guess. I would talk about this with your doctor for sure.

Exactly the case, Berry. Unfortunately, unless you hide from everything, like I tend to do, your life is public record, in some regard.

If you've not been officially been diagnosed, you may have an advantage. This would be a first, order diagnosis, by your Doctor and they would have no right to drop you.

In fact, I don't recall a time in which you suggested that you were diagnosed with anything.

We've all struggled with meds. You know what?

We're all still here! We all still care for you and will do our best to walk with you, girl!

Don't give up. You have a family to tell us about one day!

You have a pretty powerful lobby, behind you.

I'm gonna try, Berry, will you?

I got a call fro the pharmacy of my hmo on my cell phone wanting to discuss my rx for lithium- I told them no thanks, they didn't really read the rx as I was on such a low dose-1/2 tab once a day- so they insisted on mailing me some info. Yes, our insurance companies know what diagnosis code our meds, dr visits etc are billed under. And they really are trying to be helpful. But I would have been concerned as well.

Because I'm a 'Cuncuck', Berry,...I don't know about the 'insurance thing'.

But I know about not wanting those in the Health Business to know what my diagnosis is. When I was 1st diagnosed with b/p...I thought (even though I work for the Health District) they would not allow me to be on disability...this was not the case. Then when I had to say I was in detox...I had a major panic attack, and would of preferred to die than share that info with them.
My doc is a man of God...so it's all about honesty.

My main concern tho is my coworkers in the hospital knowing about my b/p. They (the Health District) say all records are 'confidential', unfortunately I know different :sigh:

Hope this situation all works out!

Not so strange anymore I guess. I questioned my pdoc. He diagnosed me bipolar II recently. I have mixed feelings on the fact that happened. In one sense a sigh of relief, there really is something medical going on for all these years, then on the other hand it seemed much less huge when it was just regular depression. Doesn't help that my husband is in total denial about it. He thinks I'm fine. Doesn't believe in meds or psychiatrists...so that makes things a little trickey. Fortunately I'm headstrong and will do what I need despite these feelings of his. But it sure is hard that he can't accept it. Anyways I guess I'm offically bipolar now.

Hey Berry  ,

It's a relief to get a diagnosis, eh? My guy at the begining had a hard time accepting my illness also. It's that process thing...denial, anger, acceptance (I think there's another part, but I'm only 1/2 awake at this time  ) Give him time  I was headstrong also (people have other names for it :D ) Glad you're moving forward to do what you need too!

 s & :prayer: s,
