  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am a Christian.

Yes ... we're past that now.

If you don't want to give your testimony, that's okay.

I'm asking personal questions anyway; so I'll just drop it.

Sort of…

Sort of what? a Christian?

God teaches a know-so salvation.

1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

I am not fanatical

You don't have to be, to be saved.

Just repentant and be willing to put your faith in Jesus Christ.

Faith requires an object.

For some, it's work.

For some, it's money.

For some, it's Buddha.

For some, it's science.

But for the true Christian, it's Jesus Christ.

Faith is the ability to accept the truth.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.
3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

The truth could be… Atlantis.

But it isn't.

Atlantis neither wrote the Bible, nor had a son who died for us all.

Including Gautama.

Nobody can be two religions at the same time.

It’s called syncretism

We call it spiritual fornication:

In the Bible, spiritual fornication is equivalent to idolatry. This is where a person who was supposed to be worshiping the true living God, is serving false gods, i.e., Mormonism, Jehovah’s witnesses, and Catholicism when it comes to Mary. It is referred to as playing the harlot (Judges 2:17; 8:27, 33; 1 Chronicles 5:25). the term is used in reference to Israel in the Old Testament because though Israel had been called by the true and living God, they would sometimes worship false gods such as Baal (1 Kings 18:26–29), “other gods” (Joshua 24:2), household idols (Genesis 31:34), golden calves (1 Kings 12:28), etc.

There was never a "child in the womb" in all of human history. To be a child, one must be a person. To be a person, one must be born. It is that simple.
Actually ( not that you may place any stock in what the Bible records), but a perfect example recorded in Scripture that would contradict this statement is Mary's visit to her cousin Elizabeth. Upon hearing the voice of Mary's greeting, John the Baptist, the fetus in the womb of Elizabeth jumped with joy. Now, you don't have to accept that this is a real account or valid ( I would assume you do not), but to Christians who believe in the accuracy of Scripture this account depicts sentience and cognitive development of a fetus. A personality one could say. Very much the attributes of a child. A child yet in the womb.

As for earlier comments that God kills more babies than anyone else due to miscarriages that is a real stretch. To take that position you need to also say that anyone who dies at any point in their lifetime through sickness or aging was also killed by God. If God allows biology and that natural course of conception and pregnancy to run its course ( including any potential complications) that is not the same thing as him terminating that life. If so, then he also actively terminates life if a child or adult succumbs to cancer.

I also don't believe that it's a gift from God to conceive a child through rape.

I think history would contradict you on that point. If on reflection you still hold the view let me know and I'll seek to locate and present persuasive evidence. (I won't accept the "No true Scotsman" defence.)

So you are not Buddhist. Nobody can be two religions at the same time.
Sure they can. I know a number of Christian/Buddhist practitioners. Some find that those two religions work very well together. From what I've experience, Buddhism seems to work well with a lot of different religions. I know not so well with fundamentalism though.

For example, portions of Tibet practice a mixture of Buddhism and Bon religions.

I also know some Native American/Christian people. And Universal Sufi/Christian/Pagan lovers of God as well.
