Some thoughts on the Apostle John

Rather than write a long intro to the Book of John, I thought perhaps some general information on him and his writings might be better! This way everyone can add to this as we go along.

He would most likely be stoned in most Christian circles today for his dogmatic stance and intolerance of heresy. Yet John was so filled with love he is known as "The Apostle of Love".

John calls Jesus the “Word of God”, and the overall Theme of His Book is that Jesus is indeed God and the promised Messiah. His Gospel tells us all about Jesus. Who He is, what He is, where He came from, why He came, what He did while He was here, where He is now, what He is doing now, and what He is going to do in the future.

There are no Parables in the Book of John.

The word "Jew" occurs over 60 times.

John is called the "simple" Gospel, because of it's simple language. It is the perfect Book for the beginner and profound enough for the scholar!

Whereas, Matthew wrote primarily to the Jew, Mark wrote primarily to the Roman, and Luke wrote primarily to the Greek, John simply addreesed the world.

Jesus refers to God as The Father over 100 times.

Jesus gives the most complete revelation of who He is, as well as who God is, than in any of the other books.
