  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Solitude and Silence

This modern world has a lot of noise and can become distracting. I recommend that we should all take some time reflecting with God in a place of solitude. Spend a little less time talking and some more time thinking. Here are some verses on this topic:

"The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint,
and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.
Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent,
and discerning if they hold their tongues" Proverbs 17:27-28

“Find rest, O my soul, in God alone” Psalm 62:5

"Teach me, and I will be quiet; show me where I have been wrong." Job 6:24

“In returning and rest you shall be saved;
In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.”
But you would not" Isaiah 30:15

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Mathew 11:28

"Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed” Luke 5:16

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33

This is beautiful truth! We all need those times of resting in God and being quiet and still; just listening.

I absolutely love silence, especially in the outdoors (well, giving consideration for nature sounds, of course). I've never been much of a talker, and too much worldly "buzz" leaves me worn out and stressed. Then I long to escape to someplace quiet and just... rest :) God didn't create us to be noisy 24/7.

Wow I wish I knew more people like you! Everyone my age wants to talk, talk talk.... :doh:

I used to love the noisy buzzing of everyday life, but now I've come to love silence.

I especially love walking out into the woods sometimes and just listening and watching. It's so calm and peaceful and I feel so close to God that my heart just bursts and I start crying.
