CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There's not a whole lot of this today, as far as I know, but there are those that fight to protect an ideal and have purpose, and then there are those that fight for whomever gives the most money. I don't see loyalty to money as a desirable motivation. And, mercenary armies are typically weaker since they don't have emotional investment.

I thought you were asking about the magazine. When I was in during the late 80s/early 90s we read SOF. It had pretty good reporting from various warzones and good weapon reviews.
As far as mercs today, I don't think there's much of it going on, outside of the private contractor/security types. They seem to be filling an important role in Iraq, freeing up our troops for combat and such.

I've often considered a career in what could be described as private contracting.
Buy some gear.
Find a private employer.
Serve him in a defensive/offensive capacity.
