Practical tips for finding what you really seek.

All over the Internet, I see people critiquing the idea of “tradwives”: they critique the women who play that role, and the men who want a woman who plays that role. But it’s very rare that I see people who actually identify as tradwives, and even rarer still that I see someone who professes to want a tradwife.

I see people claiming they want a “good girl,” for lack of better terminology. And I see women who want to rebel against hook-up culture or dating apps, who are dating to marry. Not so many self-professed tradwives or trad-husbands, for that matter. What do people want, then?

My suspicion is that many people dream of a partner who hasn’t been jaded by a debauched romantic life, male or female. Someone whom they can trust to be faithful, someone who loves them wholly, who marries for love. I also suspect that this population values family over career, experience, or money—values that naturally lend themselves to more traditional gender roles. A wife and mother who tends to the home, a father who is a breadwinner and protector.

Well my mom was a traditional wife back when things were shifting. Always bothered her, the colloquial question "Do you work?" asking if she had a job making supplementary income. For one we didn't need it, my dad was in government service the top of his profession without going into management as a government department of defense scientist weapons researcher. Secondly, the question implied she wasn't actually working being a mom and housewife, and she was. (She was much more dedicated than most when it came to cooking etc. I suspect she is a Myers Briggs ISFJ)

It was interesting that so many people asking the question, in our little Department of Defense military Industrial complex town likewise did not need to work either. They likewise were married to government working husbands with nice jobs and benefits who were the primary bread winners. They mostly did it because they were sort of bored, when their kids grew up and started going to school. The extra money the second job simply paid for more luxury items, vacations and more eating out at restaurants.

But you really need a good career to have a traditional wife! ((Which has been one of my big life issues all my life)

The entire economic system has been designed to rip apart families. It's very uncommon for anyone who isn't born into a situation of prosperity to be able to provide financially for a family with a single job. Even if you go to university for hope of a higher paying job, the debt still takes your youth and your ability to buy a home. Doctors who make a lot of money cannot buy homes due to the debt required to become a doctor - even if they are doing better than most.

I would call that, having to deal with the afflictions of prosperity. When economies are doing so well that a second income is seen as an option. It allows for some independent working women to look down their nose at housewives and try to afflict them with a sense of inferiority. But that's not always the case, sometimes it can come from a place of genuine inquiry and concern about specific issues a housewife has to deal with on a daily basis.

...I don't know how you did it, but you somehow secured a picture of my wife. I'm suing for infringement and a violation of my privacy ! ^_^^_^
