• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I smoked for like 2 years.. and quit cold turkey.. well sort of.. i still remember how i did it.. it wasn't through prayer though its not to say god didn't put this idea into my head. So here's what i did it was fairly simple.. every day for like a month i think it was when i went to take a drag of a cigarette or went to light one up I'd simply say to myself "this is disgusting".. or "this is gross".. "or this tastes nasty".. or "this makes me smell horrible".. basically i would assign some negative thing to each hit or cigarette i used.. eventually i had re-conditioned my brain.. it went from thinking oh this is delicious i love this i want more of it... to the negatives i had implanted... once i had thoroughly implanted these negatives and they had taken over my old lustful thoughts towards cigarettes i found my urge for cigarettes turning into more of a loathing or a anti craving.. after approximately like a month of this i just one day was able to stop cold turkey completely abstaining from it.. and then every time i saw one i thought to myself yuck.. so my urge to have one was changed into a disgust which when i was around smokers or people accustomed to offering me cigarettes it made it not only easy to pass them up.. but also necessary because it was satisfying my own desires... long story short try this.. it will work.. and you will quit.. i don't care how much you like them you will quit.. you have to be committed to doing this though for it to work.. even if your not throughouly comitted to quitting your mind will force you too after a few weeks once it makes up it's mind that it cant stand it anymore...

mind over matter my friends.. trust me it works.. a little prayer never hurts either .. or alot of it for that matter

I will have to try this as well. I want to quite. But it has been so hard. My boyfriend quite cold turkey about 5 or 6 months ago. I quiet for 2 1/2 week. Only because we had no money. My boyfriend quite for several reason. He quiet mainly because of the cost of the habbit. He really wants me to quite because he wants me around longer in life. Since my grandmother did die of lung cancer due to smoking for nearly 60 years. But in those 2 1/2 weeks i start getting jitters.

E cigs aren't cigs and that's what was constantly going through my mind when I smoked those. Eventually I went back to sticks.

Everyone I know who used e cigs went back to sticks.
