So which CMS is your favorite?

I know there are like a zillion of them out there But the ones I see the most are PostNuke and phpNuke. I personally use phpwebsite for my site and I love it. Very modular and easy to work with. I tried PostNuke and phpNuke and Xoops and I had to spend to much time trying to fit the mold to what I needed so phpwebsite was easy for me to create and uncreate what I needed and did not need. The features I needed was a photo albumn, message board and a calendar. At first I was going to try to intergrate my phpbb forum but that was too much advance coding So I opted to keep my phpbb forum and to make my phpwebsite a non-community place. phpwebsite even allows me to take off the login in page. Maybe later I'll add on the ezportal and try to create a community that way.

So what's your favorite and what features are important to you on a CMS?

I like e107 because themes are extremlly easy to make for it, and there are plenty of tutorials on how to make modules and skins for it.

As far as the best though, I love vBportal but that requires the $165 vBulletin to use.

I have to go with "other." My favorite is one we developed in-house to meet the specific needs of the government department where I work. We use it to create content pages, portal pages, have an events calendar, personalization option (though it's not being used at the moment), administration features, and are currently incorporating a document managment system, reporting system, and newsletter creation into it. And a lot more. We created it for our Internet and replicated it for our intranet. We've toyed with the idea of adding a message board for internal use. We can, but business needs will decide that. The system is so extensible and adaptable that other departments of the government have looked at it, too. We're proud.

What features are important to me? My answer will probably be different from others because one of my roles on our web team is to train new users. The people who use our CMS are clerical staff, management--in short, people who have a background in mostly non-tech areas. For them, a CMS has to be easy to understand, easy to use, and reliable.

Xoops is an excellent one, i havnt used on that compares to it (other than mambo) i absolutely despise phpnuke, too many problems with it. another good one is LDU (land down under) has a very nice layout, and easy to use and set up.
phpwebsite is another nice one to use.

I was not happy with phpnuke when I tried it out but I tell ya there are a lot of phpnuke communities around. The sites look pretty good but I found phpnuke required a lot of hacking to get it to do what you wanted. If I was interested in making a change there was a hack for it. The program was not developed to be flexible.

Mambo (http://www.mamboserver.com) would be my favorite, although I really think that the best is the one that you do yourself or a custom job. I personally don't like the nuke family of CMS's mainly because of security holes and some code that probably could be written in a better manner. There are also simply too many uneeded features, hence the reason I believe a custom job is much better.

The only custom job I have done was a peace of trash and I stopped when I was onlyh like 3/4ths of the way done. Then again I am not really that skilled in the ways of php and sql.

Hi,
I just recently evaluated several cmses for a site I'm working on & ended up with Mambo, mainly because it is fairly straightforward to administer and one of my requirements was a "built-in" forum, so I chose the phpbb mod for mambo.
I'd be interested in learning what cms and forum software is used for this site, or if it was custom programmed for christianforums?

I use my own! That way I can do it my own way, add any features I want, and not pay a cent.

Indeed, I love MT! It is an excellent CMS.

I personally really dislike all the "nuke" CMS'. There are too many cookie-cutter sites using them ineffectively. For many sites, they're overkill.
