Sunday evenings at our place are usually pretty laid back eatin' wise.

I just had a chicken salad sandwich with some potato chips.

One of the benefits of living in Pennsylvania (and there ain't many) is that the very best potato chips in the country are made here:

Herr's :yum::yum:
Grandma Utz:yum::yum:
Gibbles
Snyder of Berlin
I guess I like Grandma Utz the best but mostly eat Herr's. Grandma Utz is cooked in lard, and the ol' arteries don't like that too much, but they are good!

Oh yeah, these guys and others make pretzels too. Most PA natives think that pretzels are a special food group but I don't really care for them, except for these

Unique Pretzel Splits:thumbsup:

The cheese splits are best. It's hard to describe them, they are unlike any pretzel you've ever had.

Ummm...we had bratwurst, asparagus, and popcorn. Weird, but possibly balanced? The kids liked it anyway.

Dessert was homemade honey whole wheat bread. I had thrown all the ingredients into the breadmaker and the breadmaker is apparently broken. So I had to get everything out and try to salvage it by hand. It turned out...better. Why is hand-kneaded bread so much better than breadmaker bread?

Looks like Swanson Hungryman Lasagna dinner for me tonite. Mrs. menno is off to bible study early and I don't feel like cooking anything for myself.

Vespasia, what in the world is refried lentil loaf and calaccon? I know lentils are those little flat beans that are really good mixed in with rice so I probably have an idea about lentil loaf but calaccon?:scratch:

:sigh: Its the low level of cooking achieved in my home after working silly hours.

Refried lentil loaf is when you poke in the fridge at 9pm after yet another meeting and discover the lentil loaf you made two days ago and in sheer desperation fry the thing because the vegan gravy ran out the day before.
Then you peer at the cold mashed potato a limp leek and some boiled kale and remember all the old lessons in making food go all the way hammered into you by your uber Irish grandparents and mash it together. You do not refry it sticks to the pan it is best warmed through with olive oil (butter even) drizzled over it.

Believe me after that for three days I am using my day off to get some serious cooking done and store as much as is possible in the fridgge and freezer for the next few weeks.

Love to see other hubbies who, like me, cook for their household. :thumbsup: I usually do dinner and my wife the other meals.

Sir, please learn to at least make simple meals like spaghetti. Please give your wife a break now and then, okay? :clap:

:p

I go into work everyday and she gets to stay home and make her own hours. She doesn't like me in the kitchen unless it's to wash dishes so I let the cooking to her.

Now I grew up in a house that, since my dad is a chef, had a man doing the major meals. None rubbed off on me though.

And speaking of meals, I had baked chicken breast with garlic, curry, & ginger marinated in soy sauce , apple cider, brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, and worchestershire (?) sauce & baked potatoes & peas :yum:

Was just referring to men in general of the type who refuse to cook.

You dinner sounded yummy, Menno!

Tonight I made Eggplant Parmigiana. Yum.

When DH and I got married, he had a few favorite recipes that he'd copied from his grandma: chocolate gravy, no bake cookies, and apple dumplings. I guess if it isn't a sweet it's not worth cooking. :D

I had a family pack of chicken breast, so today cooked up carribean chicken, pineapple teriyaki, butter-herb, and "fried" chicken fingers. Good eats for several upcoming days!

Just a quick and early meal tonight, Hamburger Helper, before the boys and I went fishing.

My 6 year-old and I caught three bass each (mine were caught on a fly rod!). My oldest and middle boy got skunked this time. :(

Awesome, so are ya gonna fry 'em up?
