  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So what do you do when...

The one toy they want the most in the world for Christmas is out of stock EVERYWHERE, even online, and it's being sold for 3 times the price on eBay? Grrr. It's one of those toys that she's talked about getting all year for Christmas and me encouraging her and reassuring her that she'd most likely get it.

I was planning on Christmas shopping tomorrow, but I'm positive I won't be able to find this toy anywhere except eBay...and I refuse to pay such an outrageous amount.

I need some encouragement...I'm feeling rather defeated and stupid right now (I KNEW I should have gone ahead and ordered it last month). And it hurts me to know how disappointed she'll be about not getting this present.

Anyone else going through this, too?

Yay! I was just about ready to cry over this thing when I sat down and prayed and when I checked the auctions on eBay again, I found one that was at least reasonable. I bid on it and won it and I'm hopeful that I'll get the shipment before Christmas. I know Christmas is not all about presents, but it's such a gift as a parent to be able to see that smile on your kids faces when they wake up Christmas morning and see that one special present sitting under the tree.

BTW, it was the Dora Talking House. It retails for around $50 and I won the auction for $57 plus shipping (which was around $20)...BUT, when I checked my PayPal account, I had a balance of almost $30, so I really only ended up paying a few dollars more out of my pocket than if I'd gotten it from the store. God is so good.

We had the same problem with our eldest son. he wants the new slim line PS2. If you'll pardon the expression, they are like rocking horse droppings!!

Got one in the end but had to go through numerous shops before we were able to order one.

We do a little preventive maintenance every year.

Since our children were old enough to tell us what they wanted at Christmas, we had them make a short list (obviously we helped them narrow it down based on budget). We then made sure they got most things but intentionally left at least one item out while also giving them things they didn't ask for. We then talked to them about getting what they need and some of what they want, but not everything they want. So, if we can't find the popular toy that Christmas, by default it's the one left out.

That talk has also lead us into discussions on prayer and how God will give us what He knows is best, but not necessarily what we pray for.

My son is only 3, and well, still really isn't aware of all the fuss. It's only been the past 2 weeks (since his birthday) that he's been able to see a present and understand what you do with it. And not be too shy about unwrapping it in front of everyone.

he's getting a wooden train set for Christmas and I know he is going to love it. He's not really at the age where he can know what he wants for sure and ask for it. Some kids probably are able to do that at 3, but not my wee man.
