  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

If you were nearly killed by a joyrider would you sue him/her???

Personally i think sueing is another bad thing that is entering our culture.
Every single ad break on British TV comes with at least 2 ads for 'National Accident Helpline' or 'Claims Direct' and other similar companies. They try and make it seem on the ads that it is right and that it is your right to claim money off someone who was to blame for an accident.

Here is a classic quote from one of these ads:
Mrs Smith from Essex was at work when her chair collapsed, causing her bruising to the spine and much trauma, she was awarded £4000.
Mr Donningwell from Kent was on a ladder at home when it collapsed leaving him with cut's and bruises and (you guessed it...) much trauma. He was awarded over £5000!!!

Personally i think we as christians should be very wary of these because, watching them, they can make it seem that emphasizing blame and getting rewarded from others mistakes are right. Which it cannot be.

I mean COME ON Where did Mrs Smith get her money from???? and what about Mr Donningwell?? i saw an advert where a lady got money cos she fell over on the pavement!!!!!

It's these kind of manipulating companies that bring the levels of greed and blame in this world. And as we all know, the world would be a better place without all this blame.

But that's my Opinion. What's yours?

I think that your quote shows many of the foolish things that people sue for.
Is it the companies fault that she broke the chair? NO! It's her own. She should have looked at it first, or found a sturdier chair! As for the ladder. I mean, jeeze, it's HIS ladder! He should have known the risks when he bought it. here is another one. A lady spilled coffee on herself at mcdonalds and sued because the coffee was hot. Lady, coffee is SUPPOSED to be hot, unless specifically named "iced" coffee. Sometimes I wonder what this world is coming to with all these sue happy individuals! It really needs to stop, and fast too.

If I was nearly killed and I had any kind of permanent diability I would definately sue.

I would also need hospital bills paid for.

Think about it, if I were no longer able to support my family by working because of something some idiot did to hurt me, it would be irresponsible of me not to.

Yeah i would sue if it caused some permanent stuff , i mean think about if you couldn't make a living and provide for your family or self, and also the probs you might hjave later in life with your body, meaning form the accident.

But ppl are getting carried away these days with litigation. I mean come on sueing MacDonalds, KFC, Wendy's for making you fat !! HAHA come on, we know that kind of food is not healthy, naturally if you eat that stuff everyday you are going to get fat, not unless you burn it off straight away :)

I agree with that if you are hurt, when it IS the other persons fault you should sue. And that goes for your kids too. You have to protect them, especially. Yeah, Aussie. Isn't it ridiculous? I am eating food that is PURE saturated fat at my own will, so when I weigh 543 lbs and have to have open heart surgery for clogged arteries It's TOTALLY the fast food chains fault....... give me a break, they know what that "food" does! Who disagrees with this?

absolutely! in Sydney, the public beaches are in danger of being closed down due to increasing heavy legal costs that the council's finding it hard to affort. Very ridiculous.. but that's the harsh reality.

I know when a woman ran a stop sign and totaled my car I missed a week of work...and then the insurance company only wanted to pay a very small amount. Not enough to pay off the car or get another one. They were willing to pay the hospital bill for my husband though. I think a lot of the problem with people sueing all the time is the insurance companies aren't willing to pay to fix the what their clients did. I kept trying to tell the guy I don't want a huge settlement...I just want enough to put my family back to where we were before the accident. He kept saying not my problem. So if insurance companies would quite charging an arm and a leg and then not cover everything I think more people wouldn't sue. At least in the case of an automobile accident.
As for the woman at mcdonalds...I thought she was stupid to begin with!
I know one time the guys at walmart who push the carts ran into me. They kept asking if I was okay. Which I was...someone later told me I should have thrown myself to the ground and never said I was fine. That walmart would have given me $10,000 just to not sue. I thought that was ridiculous!

I think only in cases of Gross Negligence should lawsuits be allowed.  Drunk drivers, doctors leaving scapels in your intestines, companies deliberately making inferior products, those are all valid complaints, and in most cases should be punished.  In our recent accident, my wife was deemed to be at fault because she was the driver in a single vehicle accident.  I actually had to sign papers saying that I would not sue my wife in order to receive payment for mine and my daughters medical bills.  I am saddened by how pathetic society is that no one wants to earn their way.

Also, we are trying to get Social Security Disability for my wife, and because of the history of people mooching off the system, we have to fill out about 46 different pieces of paper to prove she is in fact paralyzed.  It's ridiculous.  Her doctor validating her records isn't enough.  I wish I didn't have any pride or work ethic, it might be nice to skate through life without having to work for a dime.

Then again, I actually think it would suck.

sorry for your trouble, Dewjunkie. yeah, it's really sad how the society's misusing its "right" to rip off the government and others (well... eventually it comes back to normal taxpayer's money, as we are the ones who "pay" the government).

Good luck to you and your wife Dewjunkie. I know how hard it can be with ssd. I hope that they realize that she is paralyzed since thye obviously cannot see this. People are lazy these days. Around my area people will breed like rabbits so that they can collect ssi from all their offspring, not giving them a cent of it. People are truly sick, man. And let me repeat that I truly hope the best for the two of you, because unlike the people that I have mentioned above, you two really deserve it.
