The Liberal party neglected health and education, figure Labor will too.
Lets hope not.
I cant see the economy slowing down with all the mineral wealth in the West, whatever the doom sayers predict.
Thought the Liberals just got lucky over the last 11 years with exports growing in China and now India.
I dont think it had anything to do with the government, only overseas demand

I voted for Mr Howard.. but was impressed by what Mr Rudd said as he accepted the job!!

Very diplomatic and humble and I liked that he credited Mr Howard and spoke well of him.. He seems very likeable..

I guess time will tell, for it is one thing to speak well and have good intentions and another to put them into action!! If he can do all he is saying.. then we have good things in store!!

I thought it quite interesting that although both Howard and Rudd profess to be Christians, there was not one mention of God in either speech.

But anyway, we're happy Rudd got in. And very happy that David Bradbury got into our division (yes, we are in Lindsay). :p

I trust the Liberals will be thinking up their next scare campaign. Nevermind that there is a risk of a global recession next year standing at 33%. So if the economy slows down - it's obviously all going to be Labor's fault.
It's inevitable that if the economy goes well it will be "because we gave them such a good start" and if it goes badly it will be "their fault". Nevermind the fact that its going well because we have enormous amounts of stuff we just have to dig out of the ground and sell to China rather than anything else.

I don't suppose Kevin will be perfect, but at least he will make a different set of mistakes and he shows some signs of having a conscience and being ready to wrestle with real issues.

I was never too convinced about Howard's Christianity.

But read this article that Kevin wrote himself and for me it gives a good indication where he is at with his faith.

Wonder if he takes his faith along to the strip clubs.

Of course, and John never lied to the Australian public.

I never said Kevin was a Christian not going to speculate on something I don't know - but it appears he knows a little more about the bible then homosexuals and abortion are bad.

And I take it then, that you've never sinned in your life since your using that as a yardstick to judge Kevin, and you know God will use the same yardstick to measure you?

At least he wrestles with it's implications.

We don't need a PM who is 'holier than thou'. We do need one is able to consider the implications of his faith.

Howard appears to be a good church goer with a strong sense of duty, but he shows little evidence of much depth to his faith or integrety to even its basics. Kevin appears to be willing to wrestle with the ambiguities and paradoxes of a real Christian faith with a certain degree of humility.

Adding to my last post:

of course, that's been one of the most striking aspects of the campaign - for whatever reason Kevin has come across with a reasonable amount of humility and John with a good deal of arrogance. Kevin has come across as thoughtful and intelligent, John as experienced but unimaginative and stubborn.

Here's a thought - if John has lost his seat to a TV presenter maybe he could go the other way. All his experience of scaremongering, playing fast and loose with the facts, portraying teachers as incompetent leftwing hippies, racial steriotyping, etc should be just right for a job on Today Tonight.

LOL last one was a little harsh ebia...still funny. I respect him for leading the country for 11 years. Obviously God didn't think he was doing too bad a job. He stuck to his values and good on him for doing so...but I will never support the way I feel he put business and economy in front of certain people groups in our society. And they don't have to be Australian to be part of our society.

Yes I did judge him. Make of that what you will. I never claimed to be perfect nor did Kevin.

It doesn't really matter really I'll stop arguing with you. At the end of the day, it's a Labor government in power and you'll just have to get over yourself on that.

Sounds like a good idea although I think it will take a few more days to get over it yet. Goodnight all.
