The church my parents go to host a reformation thing, I think they hold it there cause it holds the most people. I think this year our circuit pastors are playing out Martin Luther nailing the 95 thesis on the door. I know they do something a little different every year. They have a big pipe organ too and I think this year the organists in the circuit are playing organ music before the reformation thing starts.

I myself would love to see something out of the ordinary. We of course have our regular Sunday worship that commemorates Reformation Sunday and then we have an area-wide Reformation Service that all the churches in the area come to.

Usually it's just like a regular worship service but with more music, singing and instrumentalists (full orchestra in the past). I'd love to see a program on Luther, though. Like the nailing of the 95 thesis, or a replay of some of his more famous debates and whatnot. It would just be cool to remember exactly WHO got the Reformation going as well as why he got it going.

I tried to get hubby to do a (revised) version of a Praetorius service - the way Luther worshiped back in his day. We did it at our worship conference in '05 and it was awesome. But, my hubby is a bit of a fuddy duddy and wouldn't go for it because he thought some of the older members might not like it. Praetorius music is not for the beginner, I suppose!

We are accepting new members into the congregation but from the schedule (which I get early because I update the church website) I don't see anything too different.

We are having a "Circuit Reformation Service" at a fellow LCMS church nearby on Wednesday. They are going to combine choirs.

OOOH!! We do that for Ascension Day! I love it! It's great meeting members from the local churches...and singing and worshipping with them! As a choir member, it's so much fun!

Our info for this Sunday includes:

At home, we have the PBS documentary on Luther to watch, and we've been learning A Mighty Fortress. We'll probably watch Luther, and maybe the black and white version, too.

I am planning to watch both of my movies about Martin Luther this weekend end. I am also hoping that we sing "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" at church this coming sunday, can't let Reformation Sunday go by without that one.
(or pretty much any "hymn sing" Sunday!)
