  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

So...how many mega pixels?

I would appreciate any opinions from people who have experience with digital cameras. While I still love to shoot with film, the technical abilities of digital have me wanting one of them. But, I don't want to pay more than $200 max. Any suggestions? Brand, specs, etc..? THANKS!!:)

For under $200 you will be looking at a point and shoot as I don't know of a DSLR (take your time camera) for under 200 bucks.

I would recomend a Nikon. They have been a superior for years and years. For your price range you'll probably be looking at a Coolpix 4200 or if you're willing to spend a little more you could bump up to a Coolpix 4600. Both are great point and shoot cameras. My friend just got a coolpix 4200 for graduation and it seems pretty solid.

I checked Ebay and I think you can get a 4200 for about 150 plus shipping and a 4600 for about 250 plus shipping.

HA "'take your time" camera...not so not so. DSLR cameras are very fast, very fast auto focus depending on glass, very fast startup..but there is no way you will find one for 200 or under. in that price range you may beable to find a 2mp or even a 3mp point and shoot. look for a Canon A75 great camera for a good price. ( and has tons of good features to expiriment with )

also the Nikon coolpix 4200 is a great camera, my parents bought one this winter, super fast startup, good basic features. Im partial to canon because i have one and I like the way it feels to me.

What are your expectations of this $200 digital camera? If you are expecting it to match what you've been producing with your film camera, be careful. Digital, for all it's inherent benefits, can also leave you with a bad taste in your mouth. My thought is that you should save a bit more money. You can get some superb little camras in the 5MP range for around $400. It's well worth the money.

That's a quite a low budget; it might be worth saving for a bit and getting something better. Have a look at a site like "Digital Photography Review" for the lowdown on a wide range of cameras. Mega-pixel wise, I'd recommend at least 4mp or above. I started with a Sony Cybershot and then proceeded to a Canon EOS300D.
