  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Smoking.... support please!

UGH! This is a biggy for me.
So my SO, before he was a born again Christian, was in a bad way of life, smoking drinking, etc. After being saved he quit that life style (praise God!)
Smoking is touchy with me. Besides being a disgusting habit it is also harmful to you and those you love. I have lost 2 family members due about 80% to smoking (none of the other health issues would have come around had it not been the initial smoking though)
Lately, my SO has casualy started to smoke again. About once or twice a week. Due to the stress of college (2nd semester) he is using it to relieve stress.
He wants to quit, really he does but he is addicted! I don't know what to do! I talk to him but he gets so frustrated because I DON'T understand what it feels like to be addicted. I pray and pray but I am heartbroken! I can't stand it!
Please pray for him and me!
Anyone have any advice to help?
Thanks,
Natalie

I was going to start by saying that he should avoid the situations that make him want to smoke, but I guess that he would want to finish college. All I can say, besides that, is pray for him, pray together and get people to pray for him as well.

BTW. I'm now clean for 3 weeks. Climbing a mountain made me stop. Is wasn't a the humbling effect of the climb. It was the fact that I nearly died on my way up.

Godspeed and my prayers will go out to you.

Hello Natalie from another Natalie :)
I've also had family members die and suffer from the effects of smoking and I really hate the habit. I also know somone that smokes to relieve stress...my mother in law still does this despite suffering a heart attack because of it last year. She smokes a great deal more than one or two a week though but these things can and do escalate so it's essential your SO quit now before he starts smoking more and more. She tried nicotine patches and managed to quit for a while with them but she lost her determination to quit and now she's smoking again. I think determination is the key to this. If he isn't determined and willing to put in the effort required then it's not going to happen. There are various websites now with information on quitting smoking that may help keep him determined. Such as http://www.givingupsmoking.co.uk/ and http://www.quit.org.uk/ These are UK ones but there's many others out there many containing tips and information to help people quit and stay off the cigarettes.

AS an ex smoker, drinker, etc......Ill say that when a person wants to quit, they find a way.

I was even addicted to morphine at one point.
I had taken it twice a day for over a year for pain, then realized I was horribly addicted to it when I tried to put it away.

It took a month of cold sweats, waking up a lot thru the night screaming from withdrawal pain and horrible nightmares. vomiting a lot, and generally being an a bad mood thru the day.

But I determined to break this addiction and because of my disease, I couldnt trust to take a substitute drug to help with the withdrawal.

Im a weak minded fool who has no spine.
And if I can break that addiction with only Gods help and desire, then your hubby is just as capable of putting down the cigarettes whens hes truely decided that enough is enough :)
