  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is it moral and ethical? Should it be legalized?

I don't see it as either a moral or an ethical issue. And yes, it should be legalised. The criminalisation of pot artificially made a crime of something that wasn't really hurting anyone in the first place. It was a case of a bunch of over-zealous do-gooders meddling in the affairs of others.

As long as you're in control, I would say it's ok to use any drug that kicks your fancy. Not all drugs are a smart choice or a healthy one. But as long as you're in control, which is completely possible while high, then I don't think there any good reason why someone would call it wrong.

It's when you let the drug control you that it would become immoral. When you get addicted or do something under the influence you wouldn't otherwise do. That's why I don't like alcohol. I can smoke pot day and night and still be in control, but after enough booze, I'm someone else.

So it all depends on you, the drug, what you know you can handle, and how fast you can swim when you're way over your head.

It should absolutely be legalized.
Morality and ethics don't apply to the use of it (IMHO), but rather to the actions one takes while under its influence.
Umm, just like the other posters already said. So I have nothing to contribute to this thread but the strength of numbers :D

Actually,

I think that this was the original sin!
the tree in the center of the garden, was actually a dacca plant with the filthiest buds you've ever seen!

Adam and Eve did die that day, due to the fact they underestermated the potencey of the gear!

I'm a hundred percent sure the ambo's were doing 100 around corners that day.
those hideous buds were so fat and juicey, that's why they were refered to as fruit!

unfortunately, the do gooders had already got there first,
so by the time Adam and Eve got home from hospital the next day,
they wern't allowed back in the garden.

so in light of the scriptures (from my fanatical study) I have to conclude that smoking pot is one of worst sins you can commit!:liturgy:

I would like to say yes it should be legal but then I think of people sitting around smoking pot with children in the same room and I think of little kids getting high from passive smoking and I think 'not good', if it is legalised I think it should only be legal in certain environments, like special cafe's such as the ones in . . . . Amsterdam. And some very harsh penalties for smoking it around children.

Yes. If not only for the effect of taxing it heavily and getting rid of all the violence associated with drug trafficking.

I once read that if it were taxed and not fought, there would be a $7 billion swing in government revenue/cost to the positive.

Smoke up Johnny.

I see your point, but it all comes down to personal responsibility and common sense. There are people who smoke cigarettes and get drunk around their kids, unfortunately there will always be some people like that, though my hopes are that they are in the minority. None of the people I know that smoke pot do it around children, and a few have kids. When the kids are home, no smoking.

To answer the OP, I do think it should be legalized for reasons others have stated.

And I've always wondered what would happen if the world leaders got together and had a smokey treat.

While I would certainly like to see 'coffee shops', pot would also have to be completely legalized for personal use, including possession, use, and cultivation in the home, to get the full benefits of legalization, which would be reduced crime.

I agree that parents should be getting their small kids high by letting them smoke or smoking a doobie around them.

That being said, there are plenty of way to do pot right next to someone who's never smoked before and not get them the slightest bit high. Pot can be eaten, formed into a tincture, or smoked in such a way that doesn't produce any 2nd hand smoke, like a vaporizer and certain pipes.

I don't believe you can get high from second-hand maryjane smoke. However, there are many more healthy methods of consumption, espically eating. I agree that children should not be getting high, but you can't half-way legalize it. It should be avaliable for consumption and cultivation in the household.
