• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Smoking is a function of neediness that only transcending Wisdom can abate

Jesus never smoked a day in his life.

Let me start by saying that.

The claim about smoking being about neediness relates to my own personal experiment with cigarettes (I puffed one, then I ate one and one time I had one with dope, then I puffed one again). All it ever did to me was make me needy. I actually had a resurgence of strength after eating one (made me sick as a dog) and for a period of time I was "pica" as in, I had really, really specific ideas about what to eat and what each kind of food meant. That's how I know it creates neediness.

Transcending Wisdom is more difficult. You will know from the bible that you can renew your mind. What this means is that you can know something about yourself, from Wisdom, that is deeper than any one part of you (deeper than any part can function). So, if the neediness of cigarettes is there, and you transcend (forgo) that knowledge through the power of Wisdom, you transcend the connections that have developed around that neediness and are able to form new ones, based on what you do. Transcending means to speak as though it was always true, and it never matter to you if you knew it more, but you still believe it.

Solomon is an excellent place to start for learning the Wisdom you need to renew the mind. Apart from that, all I recommend is water. The more dynamic your mind is able to be, because it is hydrated, the easier it will be to form new connections, once you transcend the old problem. Don't just create a vacuum, fill the void with something spiritual (that you can talk to others about, preferably!). If you are going to confess, confess that you feel needy, but not as needy as Jesus on the cross (which you believed He was, in sin - trust me I did too).

Also, if you need a wise exercise, to distance yourself from neediness, try discerning between desperate and pathetic. Desperate is ok, if you keep your distance. Pathetic means you don't know how to keep your distance (or stop).
