Hello everyone.

I don't come to this forum very often, but I have a request...

My life has been deeply touched by the lives of many of the 'heroes' of the faith - one man I have a profound respect for is Smith Wigglesworth. I have read many of his writings and a couple biographies. Anyway, someone on another forum has suggested that the Smith Wigglesworth healings are 'fairytales'. This person has suggested that they are false - and I am grieved by it.

I wonder if any of you might know where I could go on the net to find more information? Is there anyplace I could get verified accounts? I need help - others are going to take this seriously and Wigglesworth's testimony will be damaged...

Thank you.

Yours in Christ,

Stephen

I deeply admire Smith Wigglesworth for his contribution to the Gospel while he was here on this Earth. As far as I know he was a valid man of God and his miracles were true. But I am sorry to report that I do not know if any of his miracles have been proven to be true. I suggest doing a Google search or some form of a search engine. Sorry.

No need to apologize. I imagine all we have are eyewitness testimonies...and there are skeptics out there who will simply refuse to believe anything that defies natural law - with or without eyewitness testimony.

Thanks for the reply.

There are documented healings. SW was not just known for his healing though, but the conviction that would fall on people when he was around. That to me is a greater miracle, although I do not doubt his miracles. People doubt everything, they even doubt Jesus' miracles.

If the place you saw ridicule was a site of a denomination where the gifts of the Holy Spirit are not taught....then Smith Wigglesworth and anyone else who was or is associated with signs and wonders will be held up to mockery.

Do research for yourself, but if you go back and try to convince unbelieving believers you'll most likely find yourself in in a big ol' 'discussion'....A lot of people want to keep God in their denominational box. If it ain't happening inside that box...then it ain't happening!

I've read books about Wigglesworth...quite amazing!

Hisgirl,

I am sad to say that you are right. I grew up in the Baptist church but I was also an MK and I saw Christians who (whatever their denomination) were Spirit-filled...period. Unfortunately, the same is not true here in Canada (here it seems that the Spirit-filled are mostly in certain denominations), and i think its tragic that so many Christians are missing out on this Spirit-filled life.

I have greatly appreciated the Charismatic movement and I hope to see that same fire that has spawned a movement also transform the Baptist church (as a whole) - I know there are some Baptist churches that do teach about the gifts of the Spirit.

Thank you for your thoughts.

God Bless you.

You know in my personal experience... I can stand right infront of the guy that has been healed 2 seconds ago and then Satan will bombard me with throughts of doubt.
Yes there is defnitely some covering up of the truth in the world.
About Mr Wigglesworth:
I have a book "God's Generals" written by Roberts Liardon. This guy have spend many years researching church history and events and people.
This guy lists more than 20 book sources for smith wigglesworth.

You maybe also want to look into a guy names AA Allen also known as "The Miracle Man"
They actually took photos of him healing the lame sick ect.. :)

The truth is out there and actually in many cases in your face.
But in most cases it is not the fact that people don't see the truth or anything, it's more that if they confess that something is true that has consequences... like it might mean you are on the way to hell. So then the human mind and soul decides to simply reject the facts.

Hello Stefan, You have a really cool last name and quite surprisingly, I can pronounce it!

Bless you....I am aware of the thread you are talking about..I was distressed over the advice given to that woman.

I was a member of various churches in that denom. over a 40 yr. period....and never once heard one word regarding spiritual warfare or miraculous healings. My eyes were opened and God revealed Himself to me (He was there all along, I just didn't know it!)

I have ministered to many, many of my baptist sisters and seen many be filled and move in the gifts.

There is a move of the Holy Spirit in these parts...or better yet, blind eyes are being opened to see and partake of the move of the Holy Spirit and hearts are being offered up readily to be filled to the overflow with the joy that comes with exchanging religion for relationship. :amen:

Heinrich, thank you for those references.

Hisgirl - I have to confess that like you i'm hiding behind a false title - my last name is not Davidovich. My brother found this forum before I did and came up with the name 'Davidovich' (long story). My first name is Stephen however.

But i'm glad you like the name...I think its neat that you call yourself "Hisgirl"!

God Bless,

Stephen

Smith Wigglesworth was a great man of Faith, he was real bold, he would of came upto you and probably puch you real hard. His ministry was uinique and it didn't really start till his mid 40's.

Why look on the net for answers, most people are skeptics, in and out of the church. They spend all days on forums blasting leaders. The books should be good, as they have real accounts of his ministry.

We even have some of those right here on this forum, too! :p

I've noticed that too! I've often wondered what they were thinking when they first come tip-toeing in....are they thinking we'll have little smilie icons holding rattlesnakes? :D

I remember, as a girl, going by a curtained store-front that advertised massages. I had heard all the stories and pressed my face against the glass and squinted my eyes the best I could to see through the tiniest part in the curtain.. I wasn't sure what I would see but I was sure curious! I guess they think they might see some typing in tongues....hmmm, I wonder how you would do that? :)

Stefan,

"lo there I see the heavens opening" provided my latin is up to par ;)

I know who SW is, but other than that I've never really read much about him, or studied him etc.
My advice is as follows.
If you are unsure about him, don't bother trying to authenticate miracles and signs and wonders, because its virtually impossible to do so reliably.. its easy to fabricate ones that look real, and its just as easy to doubt ones that are real.

In any case signs and wonders are not what we are supposed to follow. If you have doubts about the man, then study what he taught and what ultimately came out of his teachings. Did he teach truth? and was the long term effect of his teachings to accomplish the work of the kingdom?

PS I'd be interested to know what you find out

Smith Wigglesworth was by no means a man who was false. The miracles God did in his life and ministry were as real as those that Jesus himself did. You said you've read about his life so I would say to you don't doubt only believe. After all, God thought it well enough to believe in him so why can't you? Stand firm against those who would tell you that one of God's Generals was a fake! May God strengthen you with might in the inner man.

I would suggest you make Jesus Christ the only Hero of the Faith. As they say, every idol has clay feet. I am sure many miracles happened in Wigglesworth meetings, just as they happen every week in churches around the world, but I also imagine that many of the things reported to have happened at his gatherings are merely legend. Every hero carries with him/her the baggage of myth and, over time, people cannot separate fact from fiction. It’s best to take legends with a grain of salt. If it cannot be verified by two or three witnesses you are under no obligation to believe anyone’s report (Matt. 18.16, Deut. 19.15). Better to be safe than sorry.

Your right,we are not suppose to follow signs and wonders.By following the Lord, and seeing the miracles He did,and knowing His heart and what He wants us to walk in...and that is faith, with faith we will have the victory over sin and death,by faith,we will be moving the mountains,by faith we will see people healed, and raise from the dead,by faith we will be going to heaven to be with the Lord forever more.....Glorious isn't it??? But let that Glory go right to the Lord and not man! This is our messed up world....and Church world, we keep looking to man and what he will do.....Jesus said to watch out for them, they are the ones that lead you away from Him,if your eyes keep getting attracted to these men and the so-called signs and wonders that are done through them.........watch,for isn't that part of the anti-Christ's plan?? To decieve us Christians into thinking these are done by the hand of God??? Keep our focus on the Lord, then we cannot go wrong!!! Believe in His love for you, and how He does all these miracles so you and I can know how much He loves us,and wants us to see HIM..........be used by Him,represent Him alone.all glory to HIm.........thats my belief and understanding! How marvelous are His works!!!Praise Him who will accomplish much through each and every one of us! We serve a living God who yearns to show Himself strong on our behalf!!! Let Him do it through us..His representatives! His power works in us through us and with us!!!
