Slice of melancholy

It's weird how you start thinking about things -

like in another thread - I was trying to remember who I had a crush on growing up - and I thought about Olivia Newton John. So - I'm watching various videos of hers on youtube right now.

Brings back a lot of memories of when I was a kid...like my first crush on a real girl...the feelings of wonderment about the world...things like Christmas...when my folks were still around (and pretty much my entire life)...etc...

and it gives me a sense of melancholy.

At the same time, though, I think about how my daughter is probably experiencing a lot of those same types of feelings right now - and it does fill me with joy.

Weird how things are like that.

Thinking of crushes - Donny Osmond and David Cassidy spring to mind. Two very different men. David Cassidy looks dreadful now, and what a shame he is so ill. Donny looks as though he never ages! I can't really remember actors that I liked but I was not a John Travolta fan (thinking of ONJ).

lol - my first celebrity crush, I hate to admit it, was Barbara Walters when I was about 4-5 years old. That lasted about 2 minutes... Then over the years it was people like Pam Dawber, Connie Sellecca, Olivia Newton John, etc.

My little brother was really into Shirley Temple. He loved her hair it seems.

I remember we had to go to the eye doctor to get him glasses. His eye doctor walked into the room (had curly hair), and he told him he looked like Shirley. He was too young to realize that men didn't appreciate things like that. Bro just felt that curls were the BOMB no matter who had them. lol I'll never forget that doctor's face!

Dad would have us watch old movies on Sunday Afternoon - after church. I remember us watching a bunch of those gangster movies from the 1930's, etc. The movies stars were always the gangsters. At that period of history you always had a department store cop sitting at the front of the store - you could see him at check out. lol We were done stopping, and we are walking out...lol and little bro uses a line from the movie to the store cop! "Do you know what you ARE?! You are just a dirty cop -er'! (James Cagney) My mother was mortified! She apologized, and told Dad no more old gangster movie!

Total late 70's early 80's crush! I would suffer through Xanadu just to watch her and Grease is one of my favorite movies. "Tell me about it, stud." And what hormone crazed teenage boy going through puberty couldn't get enough of "Let's Get Physical"? Flashback to sweaty palms... Whoa!
