  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

mstodd, sometimes they go through those stages. He may be teething or going through a growth spurt. Sleep disturbance is normal, after a while he will go back to sleeping at night if he knows how. Just comfort him and keep things calm while he tries to take his bearings and get back to normalcy.....

(But I disagree that its normal for an older baby not to be able to sleep through the night.... )

My son is a great sleeper and always has been but my two year old daughter doesn't always sleep as well. We have nights, actually most nights, where she'll just wake up sobbing or she'll wake up and just babble for an hour. We don't like to encourage night wakefulness so unless she has a cry like she's in pain or sick, we let her work it out herself. If we go in and make a fuss over her, she'll do it every night.

Some babies and tots just don't sleep quite as well but I still think the wakefulness in the original poster's case is probably teething or growing.

I think he will eventually sleep through the night and be less fussy during the day. When Lilly started staying up more during the day and taking less naps ....she was so cranky. He maybe getting his days and nights straightened out and getting cranky cause of that. Lilly is sleeping through the night now...after she went through getting her days and night straightened out...we can put her to bed around 10-12 and she will sleep til around 6 or 6:30 a.m. Once she slept for twelve hours straight...I called the doc and he said not to let her sleep beyond eight hours without a feeding..it could mess up her weight gain. I know how you feel...that's the only thing that can hurt worse than anything else raising a baby..knowing something is wrong..they can't tell you and it is up to you to find out. To bad they don't make baby crys to english translation books:)
