This is a band that comes up often in religious discussions about music. The image is one that makes most Christians uneasy, and some would say this band is demonic, but when compared to bands like deicide, vital remains, or any of the other bands who claim to be satanic it's easy to see slayers image is just part of the show. I think these guys are really talented musicians and though their songs contain a lot of dark themes I don't see them as satanic as the only one in the band who even believes Satan is real is Tom Araya the vocalist and he is catholic.

what are your opinions?

Slayer is amazing, and use only shock value. The ONLY Satanic music is anything that is overtly Satanic with self professed members of the Church of Satan, and the Norwegian Black Metal Scene.

Even if it's just for shock value, their music still glorifies evil and sinful things.

Nope. Tom was raised a Catholic and in an interview in "Metal: A Headbangers Journey" he explicitly stated his beliefs and music are always kept separate. He also said that with the album "God Hates Us All"

"I consider it art. Art can be a reflection of society. [...] And that's what we're reflecting. Evil is everywhere. Some people can't control it much as others. Regardless of whatever F****** religion you believe in...whatever you believe is right or wrong. Everyone knows what is wrong. Everyone knows there are wrong things that you don't do, and the people who don't understand that or don't believe that...then they are not connected to themselves at all, even spiritually. And it doesn't matter what you believe in."

He later states:

"He doesn't hate anyone. god doesn't hate anyone! It's a great F***** title though. And I really wanted it. I thought it'd PI$$ alot of people off that's all."

It's not that people believe in that stuff. Do your research and stop slandering music and art. As a musician I am slightly offended that you would say such slanderous things with no previous knowledge.

That's a great interview and a good album, though my favorite by them will always be reign in blood.

I never got into Slayer but had seen Kerry King countless times in my town.

Online he can be quite an avowed obnoxious atheist yet he seemed really cool in person tho I naturally left him alone.

I am not the type to go googoo-gaga over celebrity encounters.

Just my .02 worth.

Kerry King is a great guy and an amazing guitarist. He is actually very outspoken in his beliefs against Christianity (Again if you watch "Metal: A Headbangers History you'd know) but just as Tom Araya - he keeps all of his beliefs and music separate. I think that's a great thing, it keeps their Thrash Metal pure and unadulterated.

Yeah he doesn't seem a bad guy to meet. And I've seen him dozens of times but never spoken to him. He breeds snakes and sells them to one of the local pet stores that I've shopped at in the past. And he used to shop at one of the stores I worked at too.

I've always thought he would be an interesting personality to meet on the internet and discuss Christianity with.
