I recently began playing Skyrim and was really impressed with the gameplay and expansiveness of the world. A lot of the game play reminds me of Lord of the Rings, and has a number of references that appear to reference the Roman Empire, and other mixed historical empires and races. One thing that bothered me the other night was the Abandoned House in Markarth. When you talk to someone outside the house and offer to help investigate inside, the doors lock and you hear a voice encouraging you to kill the man you came to help. The man attacks and whether you want to or not, you are forced to kill him to survive. Ultimately, you end up in the basement at an altar and a makevolent voice tells you to find a certain priest and bring him back so he can kill him. When I exited the house, I chose to ignore the quest. I did eventually find the priest but didn't follow him back after setting him free. I didn't like the fact that the success of that particular quest was based on something opposite to the generally good nature of your character. In general, my impression is that your character is there to serve the general good and save the kingdom and other NPCs. Anybody else feel the same way about this particular quest or have any thoughts to share?

A lot of quests do railroad you into certain actions unfortunately. If I remember correctly the priest you had to find in that quest served a pretty nasty daedric prince as well. The daedric princes seem to be closer to gods of myth like the Greek gods. However a few of them like Molag Bol are pretty demonic in nature.

USC: That quest line allows you to join the Dark Brotherhood, which in Elder Scrolls Lore is the feared and respected hitman group of Tamriel. All it is , is a test to see if you have what it takes to join the group and gain access to powerful equipment, a new mount (Best mount in the game too), and an interesting storyline.

Here is the thing about the Daedric lords and especially Molag and Pykrite.

You are going to have to choose the more evil choice to get whatever. Now the molag thing, regardless of what you choose you are pidgeonholed into doing something bad. If it is an issue or if you are trying to strive to keep your karma good just avoid the guy in Markarth completely. There was a quest that actually pushed me to the limit of what I was willing to do. It was part of the interesting NPCs mod. Misha, a witch who wants to become a hagraven asks you to go kill a family. A mom, a dad and a little girl. I completely refused and ended up bringing her the opposite items needed to see her explode in lightning.

Thanks for the replies. One thing to note is that I entered the house unaware of what would happen. It was a little unsettling due to the voice and actions required. I've chosen to just ignore the quest and focus on the positive aspects of the game.
