Name: Sir Manfred

Age: 44

Height: 6'1''

Weight 230 lbs

Appearance: Moderate height and somewhat heavy build. A small but full brown beard and short brown hair; graying throughout now. Dark blue eyes. He wears a white half plate and silver chainmail coat underneath, with a white cloth mantle over it with a black cross on the front. He has a red sash which holds his sword and sheath. Instead of a helmet, this man wears a white hood and/or coif. He wears heavy leather boots, reinforced with plates on the foot, shin, and knee, and has small plates on the sides of his arms and legs, as well as full white gauntlets on his hands. His white triangular shield has a black cross on it and is slung over his back. He owns no horse, and usually has to walk or buy a ride from town to town in Eyrel. (this is because he has a pathological fear of the animals, due to a riding accident that he barely survived. He has only ridden horses when his very life depended on it.)

History: Sir Manfred von Gottenkrieger was born to Joseph and Elsa Wolf. Joseph was a soldier in the Eyrelian Army, and Elsa was a Barbarian from the frozen north. The couple met when Joseph was travelling as part of an escort for some missionaries who had been sent to witness to the barbarian tribes. To make a long story short(very short), they went back to Eyrel together and were married. Manfred was their first and only son, and he was raised to be a soldier in the capitol city, just as Joseph had been. As a child, "Manny"(who hated his nickname) was very rambunxious and unruly, and was constantly running from Joseph's leather belt of wrath.

When the Church of Eyrel began the Order of the Holy Paladins, Joseph immediately signed Manfred up. It was a chance for the common-born men of Christia for becoming a knight and to fight as a holy warrior, and it would teach the boisterous young Manfred some discipline as well. He joined at the age of 12 and went through training as a squire, living like a monk, and being shoved around like a soldier in training ordeal. It was at the Holy Citadel that Manfred became best friends with a witty and cheerful young man named Gabrial Milokovich. The two were a volatile mixture when they were in a mischevious mood, but they were also untstoppable together when they wanted something accomplished.

After graduating as a full Paladin, Manfred wandered in the wilderness and across the country side in service of the Church and Eyrel. Bandits, monsters and demons from Anserak, all manner of foes fell before Manfred's blade. But on one fateful day, when he was in his mid twenties, he encountered a mysterious group of people traveling up a mountain. He followed them for two days and was eventually discovered. Despite his suspicions, they turned out to be on the side of the Light, and one of the travelers was in fact The Consi, a great and powerful holy warrior, who also soon became the love of Manfred's life. Manfred and Sathria the Consi were seperated after a short time together, but met up once again in Laurealda, where he went with her as one of her many companions and bodyguards. His dreams of marriage to Sathria died along with her when she was forced to sacrifice herself to fulfill a prophecy.

Upon his return to Eyrel, and after a long period of mourning his lost love, Manfred was made a Crusader, one of the Order's elite holy warriors. He received low nobility status in the Eyrelian court, although he and those who were born noble seemed to share a mutual distaste for eachother.

After his promotion, Manfred and his best friend, a demon-hunter by the name of Gabrial Milokovich, found that a demon named Xhile had attacked the Eyrel Paladin Order's citadel, killing several masters, a few of which had been their mentors. After dealing with Xhile's sabotage, Manfred and Gabrial recognized the demon for who he was; a demon from the 7th circle that had taken part in Sathria Com's betrayal, and the hastening of her death. For this alone, Manfred wanted to see him dead. So, the two Holy Warriors gathered a group of new recruits and old friends before marching out to hunt for Xhile. After a long and arduous journey, they finally chased the worn-out Demon to a city in Peria. Manfred, driven soully by rage and hatred, managed to actually keep going while everyone else had tired out, and was beating Xhile into submission, even as he possessed innocent passerbys to try and stop Manfred. It hindered him not, and Xhile's last victim was a woman who had been carrying a child. Blinded by his rage, Manfred slew her without a thought, and sent Xhile back to Hell once he fell from her body.

After Xhile's damnation, Gabrial straggled onto the scene and, shocked and distraught, opened Manfred's eyes to what he had done. The woman was dead, but her child, a baby girl, had survived, and was crying by her mother's corpse, wrapped in swaddling cloth. Manfred took her to the nearest church, where he was told he would not be excommunicated and banished, IF the girl forgave him once he had raised her as his own and told her the truth.

After 14 years of raising Mina with all the love he could give, bringing her up in the ways of the Paladin and surrounding her with loving family and friends, Manfred had to tell her the truth. He had told her all that time that Sathria Com had been her mother, and died when she was too young to remember. But when he told her the truth, she tearfully forgave him. While he had done something awful, he was still her father, in her eyes, and he was still her prime example of how a good Christian and Paladin should behave. 20 years after Sathria's death, Mina is now a Lieutenant and an accomplished Paladin, much to her father's pride and pleasure. He still is wracked by guilt for his sin, but Mina does what she can to help him forgive himself.

Personality: He has a casual air about him, but it can quickly turn grim and serious if things go poorly. He is more dignified now than in his younger years, and normally in good humor, but he still has a temper; if subdued. He can be very friendly and witty, if caught in a good mood. He does not drink heavily, but enjoys a trip to the tavern once in a while, but he has been known to get himself kicked out at times in his younger days. If he has a problem with somebody's behavior he has no problem with making it clear, and it has gotten him in trouble more than once. His boisterous demeanor has dimmed somewhat, and he is more often contemplative.

On the battlefield, he is a decent field tactician and a skilled fighter. Although fairly strong, he does not rely solely on it, and he knows how to use weapons well, work with and lead his comrades, and of course make great tactical use of his paladin powers. He does not tend to lose his temper much in battle, and trying to provoke him so will more than likely result in him being less merciful when he finally overcomes you.

His weaknesses and strengths are of his character, being that he is brave and has undying devotion when presented with good cause and motivation. He tends to be judgemental towards certain people, mainly non humans and magic practicioners, and it is times when he must allign himself with these people when his performance is at its worst. Despite his temper, he is a man of pure and kind heart and is not easily seduced by the powers of evil. Although not easily seduced by anyone or anything, he does have a slight soft spot for women. He will not willingly attack one who hasn't threatened or struck first, which is normal, as he follows the Code of Chivalry.

Weapons: An unnamed sanctified longsword; primarily steel, with a white gleam to it from the blessings placed upon it. The weapon has just enough holy energy imbued within it to remain effective against the undead.

He is proficient in hand to hand combat as well, but would normally prefer not to engage in it unless his enemy has an incredibly powerful weapon. He frowns upon use of magic, but he seems to have certain holy abilities that he calls upon from time to time( such as a Holy Bolt, which heals minor wounds for himself and any allies, and damages demons and undead, but only acts as a bright flash otherwise). These include blasts of holy energy meant for smiting the truly evil, and when in battle he seems to glow a bright aura, and those who fight along side him say it invigorates them when they are near him(His aura of choice is Fanatacism, which increases his (and his allies') strength slightly, and boosts his attack speed and accuracy some.). He knows limited field medicine from his experience in the wild, but he is no doctor, and can only help keep people alive until they find real medical attention. He can use his holy energy to imbue his hand and heal significant wounds with it, but it can only do minimal good for serious and mortal injuries.

When relaxing, he enjoys napping, stopping by the tavern, and having conversation with his friends. He is very fond of mutton and wine(can be listed as a weakness, 'nuff said).

Fighting style: Manfred seems to ALWAYS use his shield in combat. If he is not using it to block an attack, he will use it to knock a foe's guard aside, or cause them to stumble long enough for him to make a finishing blow with his sword. He is not one for subtlety, but he makes up for it with how overwhelming smacks from the shield and hacks and stabs from the sword can become in a short amount of time.
