I’ve committed a sin very badly that I haven’t in a while. I’m terrified of what happens now, how am I still a Christian after CHOOSING to do this? I’m also scared of punishment, even though I know Jesus paid the price. Satan is already getting to me and I just can’t see.
If the basis of your salvation is on what you do, you are in trouble. If your basis is on what Jesus has done, you are forgiven already. You need a better understanding of what it means to be saved:
You are born again, a new person with a new spirit that God declares to be righteous. (Galatians 2:20, 1 Peter 2:23)
You have redemption, the forgiveness of sin (Ephesians 1:7)
You died and your life is hidden in Christ with God (Colossians 3:3)
You are a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17)
It is of God that you are in Christ Jesus (1 Corinthians 1:30)
I did a study a few years ago. I looked up the references that told us "in Christ" or in Him, meaning the same thing. I got to 50 before I said, "enough!" We need to be established in Christ. Temptations will come and we will fail. The real sin is to doubt God and the salvation that cost the life of His Son.
Doubt your doubts! Put them up against the Word of God! If God is for us, who can be against us? Yes, read Romans 8 and let Satan know that you consider God's faithfulness greater than Satan's accusations. You must resist with God's word, the sword of the Spirit. God will not punish you but Satan will show no mercy. Resist the devil. He has no choice but to flee.
