Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why should or why shouldn't simulated child porn be illegal? By "simulated child porn" I mean child porn not involving or hurting any actual children. Produced for instance by animation, or actors made to look younger than 18. In my understanding such pornography is legal in the USA, but illegal for instance in Germany.

What's your stance on this issue?

I think, but am not certain, that simulated child porn (as in the varieties that you described above) is also illegal in the US.

For example, in the phone sex industry, an adult worker can talk like a child and act like a child, and give every indication that she's a child, but if the caller asks her how old she is, she cannot give an age under 18 or she's just broken the law by simulating kiddie porn.

As to whether it should be illegal, I don't know. We can simulate every other crime legally. Rape, murder, assault, even torture- those are all illegal but they are dramatized on screen every day. Even the great movie classics would be contraband if we outlawed the simulation of every illegal activity.

That's quite a difficult question. I'm assuming that you're talking about pornography where it is explicitly stated that those involved are all over 18 (and they are), but the images or whatever imitate child porn. Obviously, if there are claims that the actors are under 18, it would probably be illegal as well.

On the one hand, as has been pointed out, no children are actually harmed in the process of making the porn. And perhaps, as disgusting as it is, it could reduce the demand for actual child pornography.

On the other hand, it is encouraging something that is appalling harmful to innocent children, and is a huge problem in our world. I'm not saying that it could make someone become sexually attracted to children, but that it could increase the desire of paedophiles to view actual child pornography or to start or continue to abuse children themselves.

Because it is pornography specifically, it's different from other media in that films involving murder, rape or whatever are not made solely for sexual enjoyment. Pornography is, so simulated child porn is actually encouraging child abuse though films etc. can include something without encouraging it in sucha way.

Other types of porn (with the exception of that involving animals if it exists :sick: ), no matter how repulsive some people may find them, even if animated, could all be performed in reality with consent. Simulated child porn could not, because children cannot consent to sexual activity.

So I guess I'd have to say it should probably be illegal.

Yes it does. Someone thinking something and the possibility that they could commit a crime is not a crime, it's thoughtcrime.

Everyone has the potential for crime. That doesn't mean we should ban something because someone who enjoys it might commit a crime.

We act like this is something new, but heterosexual men seemed obsessed by the "Babydoll" dress, girls talking like babies, putting makeup on their eyes and shaving their legs (and sometimes more) to look prepubescent, having girls wear pigtails, dressing up in Catholic highschool uniforms or cheerleading uniforms...

It's nothing new.

To answer the question: No, simulated child pornography shouldn't be illegal. It doesn't harm anyone, with the possible exception of the consumer of the porn.
