  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's silly when you are still worried about being made fun of if you're wearing the wrong kind of underwear, and you're 47 years old!

Seriously, when shopping for new underwear, I gave my husband the hardest time. "I can't wear those! People laugh at women who wear granny panties." Hubby tried to tell me nobody would be able to see what kind of underwear I'm wearing, but I *know* better. If you lean forward or bend over, and this flash of white or pastel cotton peeks out above the waistband of your jeans, people point and laugh and chant "granny panties, granny panties!" I've seen it happen on TV. What Not to Wear, more than once. And in YouTube comments. The smaller your underwear, the cooler you are. Anything bigger than a thong is laughed at.

Now, am I not just a little bit too old to be panicking at the thought of other people laughing at my underwear? Or worrying about whether or not I'm "cool"? But I can't seem to talk myself out of that way of thinking.

Uhhh, do you genuinely want to buy them? Just do whatever you want.

You are, of course, correct. I've already figured that out about skirted swimsuits. I could link the post I wrote about that, but it was in the women's forum, so the men here wouldn't be able to see it. The Reader's Digest version is that when I was 8 years old, a slightly older girl (who was obese and came from an obese family) gave me a swimsuit she had outgrown. It was a bikini style, but the bottom had a skirt. I loved it because I was always a dainty, frilly girly-girl, and the skirt made me think of a figure skater's costume. I didn't attach the idea of a skirted swimsuit to any particular body type, until I discovered that my mother disapproved of my wearing it. She said, "Fat old M--- wears that kind of thing, but you don't have to." As the years went by, I became overweight myself. For years I refused to wear a skirted swimsuit, especially one that was solid black, because that was exactly what society "expected" a plus-size woman to wear. You know what? When I was on vacation just this past week, I saw a young, only slightly pudgy woman wearing a solid black skirted swimsuit, and I thought it looked cute on her. My unprejudiced self had liked it. Why should I be jaded by society?

No, I don't like enormous full-coverage "women's briefs," but even the hipsters I prefer are called "granny panties" nowadays.

But this is less about the different styles of underwear, I suppose, and more about me still being hung up, at my age, on society's approval of my fashion choices. Isn't it silly?

My husband couldn't care less on that matter, and doesn't understand my anxiety. He's absolutely right. Why should I care if the possibility exists that some perfect stranger might say "granny panties" and laugh at me? Which is what makes my thinking really silly. It's my irrational, unreasonable hangup, and I have to get over it.

Of course, when it comes to my husband, we're talking about a man who will wear black socks and dress shoes with shorts and a t-shirt.

lol .. I'm somewhat like your husband ... if its reasonable clean and not threads what's wrong with it. My GF is a girlie-girl and she is always after me about how out of style I am. But really, guy styles are quite subtle in my mind. beside I want everyone one to know what a great personality I have! lol

best I can offer is try to look at it from a different point of view. Like I'm so mature in wisdom I can wear these type of undies!
