Signs, Ringing, Moths, and Butterflies

I had ringing in my ears ever since I was a child. It was my constant warning signal that something good or bad will happen. Although, I'm rather skeptical about this, but too many incidences had already happened when one of my ear was ringing. I have come to learn and discern through experience and careful observation that whenever my right ear is ringing, something really good will happen, but when the left ear is ringing, I always feel very nervous, because I know something bad will happen.

At first, it will start off as a high pitched ring and then slowly it goes to a long low pitch range and goes louder and then slowly fades away. The longer it rings, the more dramatic the outcome will be and the shorter it rings, the less dramatic the outcome will be.

I'm not sure what this is or of any benefit to me, but I've come to live with this since. Knowing beforehand what will happen makes me feel anxious and stressed every time it rings.

Since I'm a Christian, every time the left ear is ringing, I prayed really hard to the Lord that nothing bad will happen and make it go away.

This is not the only thing which bothers me. It's not only the ringing in my ears, but whenever I see a dark brown/black moth, something bad will happen in the vicinity where the moth lands. However, whenever I see a white or yellow butterfly, a blessing and good news is about to happen. Again, I'm a skeptical person, but when these kind of things happens way too often, you tend to observe a fixed pattern of outcomes.

At first I thought it was merely random and coincidental, but, I just can't ignore these signs.

I've searched the net, but, all I read are psychics, clairvoyance websites which deals with these kind of stuff. Now, I don't want to have anything to do with the dark side, but, can anyone here tell me what is wrong with me?

Is this a gift or something else?

How unusual!
One thing you might want to consider -- large blood vessels can come closer to the ear drum, from one person to another. The blood pressure increase of anxiety can put pressure on the tiny parts of the ear.

Positive emotions can be as powerful as anxiety or rage.

The insect phenonomenon, I see that differently.

Many people notice signs like that. Personally, I think that God sometimes sends temporary signs, but does not allow us to get dependent on signs. When we rely on them, we take our reliance off God... although this so far has drawn you toward God. So maybe He sees this, and it serves as a helpful reminder that He is with you.

But be careful. I know a lot of good Christians who leaned on signs and rested on laurels, and lost sight of what God wanted. Stay on your spiritual toes.

Might be the blood pressure caused by anxiety, but it rings even when I'm relaxed.

I've read the story about the prophet Gideon who asked for a sign from God. Gideon's request was granted. Even the disciples ask for signs from the Lord. I guess, I can safely say that signs are part and parcel of Christianity - a confirmation that, as you say, God is with you.

Thanks for bringing this up because I just remembered the prayer I made a few years ago. I was praying to God whether He could give me a sign. Whatever sign He could give me whether He does listens to His children and that He is always there for them to guide them. I never did take the prayer seriously because I know it's kind of childish and immature to ask that kind of stuff from God. I was embarrassed because I felt that I was questioning God and that I have no faith in Him. I quickly forgot that prayer because in my heart, perhaps it was foolishness to the Lord. I mean, who am I to ask God for a sign? I don't think He would take it seriously.

I guess I'd better be careful what I pray for because you never know that when you ask it shall be answered, seek and you shall find, and knock and it will be opened to you. If we ask anything from the Lord according to His will, He hears us. I guess the moth and the butterfly were a way for God to show me a sign. But, the ringing in the ears was with me since I was a child. I never did know why it rings until a few years ago when I became much aware of it.

Rest assured that I never lean on signs to guide me, rather, something to be afraid of because I have totally no idea what is going on. I never look forward to it.

I guess this is another answered prayer because yesterday I was really questioning myself whether this is from the Lord or something else. I was really depressed and worried because I want nothing to do with the dark side. I know I'm a Christian and a child of God and I'm not a psychic or clairvoyant. Maybe, my faith is weak and that God has to train me in order that my faith and confidence in Him goes stronger. Or, maybe train me in how to discern things.

I never did know why it rings until a few years ago when I became much aware of it.

Well... hearing is just converting sound waves into nerve impulses, so when people hear things it can also be a brain hearing... and God can certainly trigger nerves to fire.

I belonged to a church for a while, where people smelled smells. Like the movie Michael, where John Travolta smelled like vanilla. There were at least two times where I smelled things in a spiritual context, without a source. Once, a fake purple smell like grape magic markers. Another time, a more vanilla floral smell, and someone else smelled it too. Both times, no people had been in the building before we arrived.

I tell this story bc I think it was a sensory trigger, more than a real nasal smell. God communicating different things to us, like He chooses to do with dreams. Getting our attention in specific ways.

Or, maybe train me in how to discern things.

That would make sense.

Well, it's not something you can control. Occult involvement usually shows intent. Christian involvement shows intent, and God knows your heart. As you say, you prayed for something. You can turn any circumstance into something that glorifies God.

We are all so different in our bodies, with all sorts of quirks and aches.

I have a had an experience which although is different, involved a similar concept. There are 3 times I can recall where I have had an inexplicable grief in my spirit. It's different to an emotional feeling, but it does touch the emotions. And there was nothing going on at the time that would trigger this emotion in the natural.

I also went thru the discernment process each time to try & understand it & what it was about. After I made a connection between the sign & an event it was a little easier to understand the purpose. I believe the sign we generally to show how the Lord felt about some situations. And specifically, I eventually linked the 3 times, (years apart) with each of the following:
1. My daughter who wasn't with me at the time was physically injured
- I believe a key reason the Lord gave me the sign in this instance was to prepare me emotionally & to let me know He knew what was going on & was in control although He didn't cause her to be injured.

2. I found evidence of witches or satanists cursing the street I live on
- I beleive the Lord gave me this was so I could pray & break the curse in Jesus Name & protect the people living in our street

3. A foundational married couple in a church I was attending where I was involved in prayer, separated & we later divorced
- I believed I was given this for prayer to prepare me & the church through prayer

Rest assured that I never lean on signs to guide me, rather, something to be afraid of

After the instance of having the sign & linking it to my daughter, I had to watch that I didn't become fearful when ithe sign happened again. I found there was a negative emotion I started to be drawn into & if I let myself go into it, it would have been destructive. And it could become negative faith & self-fulling.

There is trouble in the world, but we are not to let our hearts be troubled.

John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

And we prevent our hearts from being troubled by guarding them - observing our thoughts & emotions & re-directing them to God's word.

Proverbs 4:23
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Philippians 4:7
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Proverbs 3:
25 Have no fear of sudden disaster
or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,
26 for the LORD will be at your side
and will keep your foot from being snared.
We respect honour God (The Fear of the Lord) & His word above the signs, believing that He is in control & He works ALL things for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose. (Rom 8:28)
Proverbs 19:23
The fear of the LORD leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble.

Something I find very helpful in these circumstances is praying in a spiritual language. God has provided a mechanism for us to pray about something we don't understand. Do you speak/pray in tonges?
