  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Surfing for you dude...lol..

1.Whosoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary shall receive signal graces. Signal Graces are those special and unique Graces to help sanctify us in our state in life. See the remaining promises for an explanation for which these will consist. St. Louis de Montfort states emphatically that the best and fastest way to union with Our Lord is via Our Lady [True Devotion to Mary, chapter four].

Our Lady's 15 Promises for Praying the Rosary

Peace be with you...Pam

KSTomM: What are signal graces?

Matthew_Bunson: I am not entirely certain what you mean by signal graces. Could you be more specific?

Matthew_Bunson: Jenny, St. Isidore has been proposed by many people as a possible saint of the Internet. I believe that a petition was sent to the Vatican about it.

CathyD: Here is the definition I found for signal graces: Signal Graces are sent by God to help us to make the right decisions in life.

KSTomM: In the promises of the Virgin Mary to those that pray the rosary one will receive 'signal graces'. I've yet to find what those are.

Welcome to Our Sunday Visitor it's way down the page

The way that I understand it, a signal grace can be alot of things. IT could be a gift of the Spirit that leads you to be with a certain group of people because God wants you there. Sort of like God saying I want you to be a franciscan. In such a case the signal grace(s) happen when something reminds you of the franciscan's. If a peson decides to do something, that God wants a person to do He will give them graces. Like an affirmation that a person is doing God's will. A signal grace can be some sort of mystical grace that may also be physically felt.

For example sudden smell of roses. Parts of the body suddenly getting warn. It could be a desire a be with God some way. It could be a sudden desire to be with God. A signal grace could be a gift of the Spirit. Such speaking in tongues and/or healing. It may be a beatific vision, a visitation, ect.. so on and so forth.

It is a excellent question. I'm curious if there some type of defitionn of something that defines it. I could ask my DRE, but that wouldn't be till thursday night.

peace

Lionroar,

Not to criticize your comment, which was very good, but,

It may be a beatific vision, a visitation, ect.. so on and so forth.

Please watch your vocabulary. The beatific vision, properly speaking, is only seen beyond this life in heaven. The Fathers of the Church speculated that St. Paul and Moses witnessed briefly the beatific vision, but these were the only two to do such a thing....a very rare, extraordinary exception.

Anything similar in appearance could be an intellectual vision, or an ecstasy; but they are not "[beatific] vision", as Teresa de Jesus would say. The closest one can get to God on this side of heaven is the Transforming Union that St. John of the Cross mentions, corresponding with the Seventh Mansion of St. Teresa's Interior Castle.

PassthePeace,

Again, you come to my aid. :)
It was in passages like those Rosary promises you posted that I saw the phrase "signal graces"...I have to say I think that, based on implicit meanings, signal graces have to do with God's special hand directing you in his will, whether by circumstance and relations, or something supernatural, like dreams or whatnot.

Thank you for the little definition that that site gave.

Any one else have any thoughts?

This sounds similar to a certain Jewish theology I heard a while back. Something to do with 7 gates or something like that. I'll have to see if I can find it. Believe it was some commentary by one of the Rabbis at http://www.torah.org. Just can't remember which one.

Ok, now that I have taken a little time, it may not have been the gates necessarily, but check out the following:

http://www.torah.org/learning/spiritual-excellence/archives.html

Gate seven in this series is on teshuvah, which is understood in Judaism as the ability to repent of sins; to turn to God once again after having turned away from Him; and to set things gone wrong aright. In other words, what we would know as repentance, conversion, and attonement. The Introduction to Gate 7 should give a good overview. Anyways, that is what I can say in comment for now.

Pax Voviscum,

John
